Madhya Pradesh: 4 dead, 7 injured in explosion at illegal firecracker factory in Morena

At least four people died and seven others injured after a blast at an Illegal Firecracker Factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena city on Thursday afternoon. Inspector General (IG) Rajesh Chawla said that the incident happened in an illegal firecracker factory under the the Banmore police station.

He said that the police and the administration have reached the spot and rescue operations was underway. Actual number of casualties may increase.

District Megistrate B Karthikeyan said that they could not say anything about the real cause of the blast. It might be a firecracker or something else. Four people have died and seven others were crtically injured. At least one child who was buried under debris has been rescued.

Journalist Chaudhary Parvez informed on Twitter that the entire house was destroyed in this explosion and many people were trapped after this incident. Another journalist wrote that explosion happened at an illegal firecracker warehouse in the residential area in Morena.

In a similar incident, a woman and her daughter were killed and eight others were injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on April 12 this year. Police said that the factory owner had a license for running the firecracker unit at village Sumela, but was running the unit illegal in a residential unit in Badarwas.

According to the reports, this was a very powerful explosion. Tabassum Khan (25) and her daughter were killed on the spot while eight others were injured.

Police said that the firecrackers were being manufactured illegally on the ground floor of a two-storey building owned by Mohammed Hussain Ansari.

In June this, another similar incident happened at a firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh. At least 12 people deied and 13 others were injured in this incident.

Police said that the factory was located at an Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) site in Hapur’s Dhaulana area. More than 20 fire tenders were rushed to the site. Most of the deceased were labourers working at the plant.
