A Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. A massive protest erupted in the valley after this incident.

Reports said that Poran Krishan Bhat was shot down at his residence in the Chowdhary Gund area of the south Kashmir district. He was admitted to a local hospital but the doctors declared him dead. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Police said that the area has been cordoned off and a hunt was launched to nab the terrorists.

DIG Sujit Chauhan said that a Kashmiri Pandit Puran has been murdered. They were working on it (the case). KFF (Kashmir Freedom Fighters) has claimed the responsibility for it. They won’t say anything for sure about it, yet. A guard was present there.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said that the attack on Puran Krishan Bhat by terrorists in Shopian was a dastardly act of cowardice. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. He also assured the people that the perpetrators and those aiding and abetting terrorists would be severely punished.

Social activist and filmmaker Ashok Pandit wrote on Twitter that one more KashmiriPandit, Puran Krishan Bhat, was killed by the terrorists at Shopian in Kashmir. Thousands of Kashmiri Hindus have been protesting for several months to relocate so that they could save their lives. But their cries have gone unheard.

Rajani Patil, All India Congress Committee (AICC) In-charge for Jammu Kashmir, wrote on Twitter that the killing of an innocent Kashmiri Pandit at a time when BJP claims to have turned Kashmir into a hospice of safety and security deflated their lies. She expressed her condolences to the family of Puran Kishan and said that she was standing with them in this hour of grief.
