A nerve-wracking story has come to light from Kerala’s Kochi where a 36-year-old man threw his daughter and himself off of the Marthanda Varma Bridge on Thursday. According to reports, the man had picked his daughter up from her school on his scooter and took her to Aluva’s Marthanda Varma bridge where he committed the murder-suicide.

The man parked his scooter along the side of the bridge and then threw his 6-year-old daughter, Arya Nanda, off the bridge and then followed suit by jumping himself. The locals and the people who were present at the scene immediately informed the police, whereas some other locals tried to save the father-daughter by swimming after them. But due to the heavy flow of water, failed to do so.

Subsequently, after the failure of the locals in rescuing the father and daughter who jumped off, the police reached with a scuba team, along with the locals to find and search for them. However, the scuba team’s effort went in vain as they couldn’t find the duo.

On the evening of the incident, the body of the father who was identified as Laiju Nanda was located near a hotel which was located right below the bridge. Whereas, the body of the daughter was found near Thynoth Kadavu. The police were able to identify the victims from the documents found in the man’s scooter.

The victims were declared dead before being taken to the hospital. The bodies were first taken to a nearby District hospital, however, after an inquest, the bodies were shifted to a government Medical college. According to reports, Laiju, the father, had sent a message to a person where he had confessed to his intentions of jumping off a bridge.

The news of the demise of a family of four had shaken up the latter surviving two of the family members, a son and a mother. The son, who is a student of Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan at Aluva, and the wife and mother, who works in Dubai had to rush home as she arrived at the Kochi after being informed about the news.

Laiju Nanda was the owner of a Sanitaryware shop in Kerala’s Puthuvassery. The cremation ceremony was held on Friday at the SNDP crematorium in Kaprassery.
