The Ghazal King, Jagjit Singh was born on February 8 and Tuesday will mark his Birth Anniversary. The singer has given some of the best timeless songs and ghazals that has enthralled generations.
Born as Jagmohan Singh, he released more than 40 independent albums and lent his voice to several Bollywood films. He began his professional career with All India Radio in Jalandhar where he sang and composed multiple assignments. In 1969, he got married to singer Chitra Dutta and the couple had a son Vivek. In 1990, he lost their only son Vivek in a car accident.
As per an Outlook report, Beyond Time was the first album that had an Indian musician recording a purely digital CD album in 1980. In 2003, Jagjit Singh was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and the government released a set of two postal stamps in his honour. The government of Rajasthan also posthumously honoured him with its highest civilian award, the Rajasthan Ratna in 2012.
