Amid Congress infighting, Harish Rawat says all is not well in Punjab party unit

Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat is constantly trying to establish a rapport between CM Captain Amarinder Singh and state party chief Navjot Sidhu, but now he has also accepted that everything is not well in Punjab Congress. Rawat, on Thursday said all is not well in the grand-old party but efforts are on. At the same time, he has also denied any discussion on the reshuffle in the Punjab cabinet.

Not all is well in Congress. I don’t want to hid from you. Those angry ministers who did not come to meet me, I thank them. The government did some things very well which we could not appreciate. It is due to the Amarinder Singh government that the Bargari case is out of the clutches of the CBI, he said.

Harish Rawat’s remarks came after separate meetings with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu in Chandigarh. Rawat had apprised the dissatisfied Congress leaders with the decision of the high command not to change the face of the Chief Minister in the upcoming assembly elections.

Rawat said that he has held talks with Navjot Sidhu regarding the organization’s expansion in Punjab and other issues. It is not necessary that every person has the same views. It may differ on many issues, Rawat said. The former Uttarakhand chief minister also clarified that he has not had any talks with Amarinder Singh regarding the cabinet reshuffle. Rawat said the media has raised this issue and that he has have not had any conversation with Captain Amarinder Singh.

The remarks come amid speculation that Harish Rawat has been informed about the removal of two ministers close to Sidhu, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Charanjit Singh Channi were among the four cabinet ministers who recently sought a replacement for the Punjab chief minister. The leaders had said that he has lost faith in the CM on unfulfilled promises. Sources said Harish Rawat had told Captain Amarinder Singh that the party high command was not in favor of expansion of the cabinet at this stage as dropping two ministers could lead to further dissatisfaction.

In other India news, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal addressed the people in Punjab’s Moga on Thursday.
