Sanjay Raut says BJP-Shiv Sena relationship like Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao

Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Monday linked the BJPs relationship with Shiv Sena to that shared by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and his filmmaker wife Kiran Rao who recently announced their divorce.

Raut’s comparison comes a day after senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said his party and former ally Shiv Sena are not enemies despite differences.

One of Indian cinema’s power couples, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, announced their separation on Saturday in a joint statement after living together for 15-year-old marriage in a joint statement. The Bollywood superstar announced his divorce saying they would like to begin a new chapter of their life as co-parents and family for each other.

Signalling a thaw in ties between the former allies in Maharashtra, Raut said Sena and the BJP are not India-Pakistan and the relation between the two is like Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. He said the political ways Sena and the BJP are different but the friendship will remain intact.

The Shiv Sena had exited from the alliance with the BJP after the Maharashtra assembly elections in 2019 and formed a coalition government with the NCP and Congress.

However, Sanjay Raut clarified that there was no question of the Shiv Sena-NCP- Congress alliance in Maharashtra breaking up and said the government would complete its full term.

Raut’s borrowing from Khan’s arrangement is being seen as an indication of the old allies joining hands again amid buzz of discontent in the MVA alliance.

The two parties have been in talks for a possible patch-up for some time, say sources, amid reports of a strain in the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra coalition.

The first signs of patch up between the Sena and the BJP flashed when Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray spoke one-on-one with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after their meeting last month over issues related to the state. Few hours after meeting, Raut remarked that PM Modi was the top leader of the country.
