Dubai eases travel restrictions for India, South Africa, Nigeria from June 23

The Dubai government on Saturday announced relaxations of travel restrictions for inbound passengers from India, South Africa and Nigeria, if they have administered two doses of a UAE-approved Covid-19 vaccine, according to media reports.

The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management head Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the new travel protocols, which will be effective from June 23.

According to the new rules, only passengers with a valid residence visa who have received two doses of UAE approved vaccine i.e Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Oxford AstraZeneca, will be allowed to travel to Dubai.

Furthermore, Indian passengers are required to undergo a rapid PCR test four hours prior to departure. In addition, following arrival,they must undergo another RT-PCR test and undergo institutional quarantine until they receive their PCR test result, which is expected within 24 hours.

However, from South Africa and Nigeria, non-residence passengers are also permitted to travel subject to the vaccination and PCR test conditions. Also, a negative test certificate from a PCR test taken 48 hours before departure is required.

Meanwhile, the UAE citizens and diplomats are exempted from a negative test certificate from an RT-PCR test taken 48 hours before departure. Even, they are exempted from institutional quarantine. They only require QR-coded negative PCR test certificates are accepted, the report said.

In view of the surging second wave of coronavirus, the Gulf nation had first banned passenger flights from certain countries including India, on April 25. It later extended its ban on entry for travellers from India on May 4. They had said that flights between the two countries will continue to allow the transport of passengers from the UAE to India and the transfer of exempted groups from India to the UAE.
