Railway police arrest 2 men days after Kerala nuns were forced off train in Jhansi

The Railway Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi has arrested two people in a case related to the Kerala nuns who were harassed and forcefully deboarded from a train on March 19, NDTV reported on Friday.

A statement from Jhansi administration said in the case of forceful deboarding of nuns and teenagers from coach B-2 of Utkal Express at Jhansi railway station on 19 March 2021, the district administration and Police administration have detained Anchal Arjaria and Purgesh Amaria for involvement in the incident.

A railway police official said on record last night the men had been arrested.

A senior official of the railway police, Naeem Kham Mansoori, said around 10 pm at night, a team of the railway police was patrolling at the Jhansi when they got information about two people who were discussing the March 19 incident involving the Kerala nuns. They were heard saying that the police did not act properly and let off the nuns.

The men got agitated when they were questioned about the incident said they would plan a protest against the cops. This is why they have been arrested. The police has taken suo moto cognizance of this case and will file an FIR and send them to jail, the official said.

Two nuns and two trainee were heckled and deboarded from a train in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Friday last, March 19. The nuns were said to have been forced off by ABVP members, who alleged the nuns were forcing people to convert. Some reports said these were Bajrang Dal activists.

The nuns of the Sacred Heart convent under the Kerala-based Syro-Malabar Church were travelling on the Haridwar-Puri Utkal Express on March 19. The trainee nuns were dressed in civilian clothes while the nuns were in their habit. A 25-second video from the train shows them surrounded by some men, some of whom appear to be policemen.
