AMU Centenary: PM Modi says all Indians will get equal opportunities to fulfill their dreams irrespective of religion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Aligarh Muslim University students and faculty members via videoconferencing on the occasion of university’s centenary celebration. During the event, PM Narendra Modi released postal stamps as part of centenary celebrations of AMU. Addressing Alig fraternity, PM Modi showered praise on the university and its history of education.

The AMU is celebrating its 100 years on Tuesday. The pre-independence Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University on December 1, 1920. AMU was formally inaugurated as a university on December 17 that year.

Addressing the Aligarh Muslim University on its centenary year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said AMU represents mini-India and that it has hundred glorious years of excellence in education. He also said that AMU has worked to empower India’s relations with many countries in the world in the past 100 years.

Praising the AMU alumni, PM Modi said he often meet AMU alumni during several of his foreign visits. He said the AMU alumni across the world represent the culture of India and they said very proudly that they have studied from AMU.

Showering praise on AMU, PM Modi said AMU has crafted and polished millions of lives, giving them modern and scientific thinking and inspiring them to do something for the society and the nation in its 100 years of history.

Underlining the contributions of AMU in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Modi the way AMU has been helping the society is unprecedented. During his address, PM Modi said getting free tests of thousands of people, creating isolation wards, creating plasma banks and contributing large sums of money to PM care funds shows the seriousness of fulfilling AMU’s obligations towards society

PM Modi was the Chief Guest at the celebration, while Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was also present at the centenary celebration event of AMU as a Guest of Honour. Chancellor of the University Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin was also present on the occasion. This was the first time in over five decades that a prime minister attended an AMU event.
