USP4GG-Michigan holds ‘telethon’ to remind people to vote in primary

The Michigan chapter of the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG-Michigan) conducted a “telethon” last Aug. 4 at the Hibachi restaurant in Sterling Heights to remind voters to cast their ballot in the Primary held last Aug. 7.

The telethon was sponsored by the APIA Vote.

USP4GG-Michigan Chairman Willie Dechavez said 35 volunteers participated in the telethon which started at 1 p.m. and ended at 3 p.m.

The volunteers, using their cell phones, called 40 voters each, telling them that USP4GG is a non-political organization and they were calling to remind them that the primary was just three days away.

This was the second time USP4GG-Michigan conducted a telethon as it also held a similar civic-engagement activity last year.

Aside from Dechavez, the other USP4GG officers who participated in the telethon included President Resty Teodoro, Secretary Josie Sanders, Auditor Wilmar Suan, Assistant Auditor Jess Concepcion and Treasurer Michelle Oh. Vice President Brenda San Agustin was out of town.

State Representative Henry Yanez (Democrat, District 10) was a special volunteer. A candidate for state senator of Macomb, Sterling Heights and Clinton Township, he ran unopposed in the Aug. 7 primary.

The other volunteers, who are USP4GG members, included Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zacarias, Mr. Jovito and Violet delos Reyes and Youth Group President Annabel Mugan.
