When our reporter meet an ordinary Papuan holding a banner with statement “Peaceful Solution for Indonesia or Solusi Damai untuk Indonesia“, he asked directly to several people who gather in the area. A Papuan civil servant cautiously answer that such statement showed disagreement with the Government of Indonesia in Jakarta. An activist bluntly explained that the statement reflected demand for peaceful solution through referendum. A Papuan policeman replied nicely by saying peaceful solutions had nothing to do with demand for referendum. Our reporter was confused…., so he tried to approach the Papuan woman who hold the banner.

When our reporter asked her the meaning of peaceful solution for Indonesia, she replied bewilderingly: what do you mean? Then our reporter repeat the question differently, why do you request peaceful solution for Indonesia? She convincingly answered that she wanted a peaceful Indonesia without violent threat from anyone. She further explained that unknown armed group (probably Free West Papua or Free Papua Movement) repeatedly terrorized the people and recruited you Papuan to join them and created fear among the villagers. On the other side, local Papuan police supported by military always showed high suspicion against ordinary people like her.

She wanted, all armed groups to be disbanded, and Papuan local police increased their trust by routine communication with the people.

A very simple demand and has nothing to do with secession movement in Papua and West Papua.

The current situation of West Papua issue is clearly an evil propaganda against the will of majority Papuan. They want peace, they demand peaceful solution, and they dream of peaceful life. How to achieve it?

Very straightforward answer, all should try to convince a small group of West Papuan to stop terrorizing the people. All should also ask West Papuan separatist leaders abroad to stop their evil campaign maintaining conflict in West Papua and Papua provinces. Peaceful solution for Indonesia is a simple request that all armed separatist groups to come back to their family and leave their terror agenda. The role of Papuan local police and military is very simple, to protect the people so increasing trust from the people is vital and unquestionable.
