ബോൾഗാട്ടി ദ്വീപ് കൊച്ചി മറൈൻ ഡ്രൈവിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു പതിറ്റാണ്ട് മുമ്പുള്ള കാഷ്ച. ആ കാലത്ത് ഫോട്ടോയിൽ കാണുന്ന പോലുള്ള ചെറിയ പായ് കപ്പലുകളിൽ ഒരുപാട് വിദേശ സഞ്ചാരികൾ ഇവിടെ എത്താറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നത്തെപ്പോലെ മറീന സൗകര്യം അന്ന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ഈ യാനങ്ങൾ എല്ലാം കയലിൽ തന്നെയാണ് നങ്കൂരമിട്ടിരുന്നത്. ഇങ്ങനെ എത്തുന്ന വിദേശ സഞ്ചാരികളിൽ ചിലർ മാസങ്ങളോളം കൊച്ചിയിൽ തങ്ങാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഫോട്ടോയിൽ കാണുന്ന കടത്ത് വള്ളത്തിന് മച്ചുവ എന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്. ഈ മച്ചുവ വഞ്ചിയും കൊച്ചിക്കായലിൽ ഇന്ന് കാണാൻ കിട്ടാറില്ല. എറണാകളം മാർക്കറ്റിൽ നിന്നും കൊച്ചിയിലെ മറ്റു ചെറു ദ്വീപുകളിലേക്ക് സാധന സാമഗ്രികളും മറ്റും കൊണ്ടു പോകുന്നതിനും ബോൾഗാട്ടിയിലേക്കുള്ള കടത്തു വള്ളവുമായാണ് ഇത് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്.

There was no marina facility then as there is today. All these yachts were anchored in the backwaters itself. Some of these foreign tourists stayed in Kochi for months before leaving for their next destination. The ferry boats seen in the photo is called Machua locally. This Machua boat is not seen in Kochi backwaters today as in the past. It was used to transport goods from the Ernakulam market to other small islands in Kochi and as a ferry to Bolgatti island.
