Hyundai’s excellent compact sedan gets a new facelift for the 2020 model year. The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is out for blood, with an aggressive new look and features to match.

It’s an understatement to say that the 2020 Elantra looks angry, with sharply cut headlights emphasized by hood lines that give the front a sneering look. The headlights specifically are a new triangular design that are given a single main lamp outlined by an LED daytime running light.

The grille has a rather basic chrome edged crossbar design, but effectively relays a sense of aggressiveness like a hockey mask. The fog-lights follow suit as two additional triangles pointing inward, sculpting the lower fascia as it moves into the grille.

A small skid guard lines the bottom which is a nice touch for smaller low riding vehicles. The profile features prominent shoulder lines and the wheels have offset spokes that would certainly look like whirlpools when driving.

Despite its size the 2020 Hyundai Elantra is given a reasonably large rear window for excellent viewing. The taillights are a far departure from the front and almost look like two different designs intersected by the trunk door. The lower fascia receives decently sized reverse lights which are placed in a black accent that forms the license plate cut out. Keen observers will also notice the valence diffusers and spoiler. Hyundai fully intended a sportier aesthetic when designing the 2020 Elantra.

The sporty intent is more evident inside as well, with a driver centric design, starting with the infotainment which is contoured by the dashboard to emphasize the driver’s side. The steering wheel is admittedly a little plasticky, but has a full suite of cruise control, call, and infotainment controls.

Hyundai’s interior is also completely set on being monochromatic with the only colors coming from their touchscreen and the very noticeable red hazard lights button.

The cloth chairs provide a touch of texture with crosshatched centers and smoother outer edges. The seats only feature manual controls which isn’’t unusual, even for higher end sport vehicles.

The rear seats are given the same design and pattern as the front. With a decent amount of room, the rear seats do not suffer from the compact sedan design but the cargo space does, even with the option of folding down the seats in a 40-60 split. A nice little design flourish fitting Hyundai’s keep eye for detail is the chrome door accent that starts at the front door handle and continues in the rear.

Hyundai’s 2020 Elantra is a perfectly executed motif throughout its design. From the sharpened headlights to its rear sport-like accessories the 2020 Elantra does not mess around with its intent. Hyundai may be known for economical cars, but the 2020 Hyundai elevates the class, appealing to those who can see the true wit behind the design.
