If you’ve started to learn with the world of digital photography, soon you will hear word Exif. Youl will find this word when you read manual book , or when you hear chats between photographers , or when you following thread on online photography forum.
What EXIF metadata is?
Basicly metadata is the term in Information Technology (IT) world , more or less meanings the data that recording important infromation about one file. Meanwhile EXIF is metadata that especially equipped in photography world. EXIF save many detailed informations about digital photo files. EXIF is a abbreviation which is contiouation of Exchangable Image Format.
When you Know EXIF data about a photo, at least you can know the informations like this bellow:
· Date and time when photo was created
· Merk and type of camera
· What the type of lens
· How lenght the focal lenght
· Exposure data, such as : the shutter speed, aperture, how the value of ISO
· Using Flash or not
· And if you use camera with GPS build in, EXIF also record theposition where isthe picture taken.
Actually there are more many information that recorded except informations above, But at least you know the big pictures of EXIF.
How i can see EXIF data from a photo
If you want to know about EXIF data from an photo, open a photo in your computer then :
· If you are using Windows Explorer, right click your photo file and then click properties.
· If you are using Mc (Finder), right click then click more info.
The advantages when we know our EXIF data
There are many advantages when we can see our EXIF data photo file, they are:
· We can compare 2 photos that was taken with different setting, then you can see the different photo result, so we can know which is the best setting for current photoshoot condition.
· We can make group based type of lens, the date of photoshoot .
· We can learn from other photography work,for example when you visiting Photos Sharing site like Flickr.com and find a good photo and you want to know the way how this photo was taken, we can see EXIF data like this:
