The launch of the Mavic 2 Enterprise has industry veterans excited about the prospects for this powerful little device. Based on the recently launched Mavic 2 Zoom, the Enterprise edition comes with a host of upgrades making it suitable for a range of commercial applications.

Up until now the Mavic and Mavic 2 have been deployed in commercial environments, despite being classified as consumer drones. This means they are missing some of the features of a true commercial drone such as advanced collision avoidance found on the more capable Matrice 200 Series.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise edition aims to solve that problem by providing true enterprise capabilities in the compact and affordable Mavic frame. This opens up new opportunities for organisations large and small to deploy drones in their environment. To help you understand the capabilities of this new device, let’s take a look at a few real-world Mavic 2 Enterprise commercial applications.

Search and rescue

Search and rescue teams require a unique set of tools to do a dangerous job in difficult circumstances. Up until now, most search and rescue teams have been using drones such as the Matrice M200 series fitted with Zenmuse XT2 thermal imaging equipment.

The M2E is a lower cost alternative and is equally as effective. Rescue teams have access to a powerful platform which can provide support in the following scenarios:

All weather search and rescue: With its high powered 2,400 lumens spotlight and APAS collision avoidance system, the Mavic 2 Enterprise is the perfect drone for search and rescue. The Mavic 2 frame is compact enough to be carried in a backpack, while the self-heating batteries allow for the drone to be deployed when other drones would remain grounded.

Help prevent disaster: The loudspeaker, which can play up to 10 pre-recorded messages, could be used to locate lost individuals or warn fell walkers they’re approaching adverse weather. There is no limit to the types of messages which could be relayed by the drone. Up to 10 messages can be stored and new ones can be recorded at any time.

Fire service

Search buildings safely: When fitted with prop cages, the Mavic 2 can be used to access rooms, vehicles and other obstructions without risking the lives of officers. Help bring hostage situations to a close: Hostage situations are some of the most difficult situations police officers have to deal with. Find hidden suspects: Suspects often attempt to hide from the police which results in dog teams or helicopters being called in for assistance. So far we have concentrated on law enforcement and the emergency services, but the use of the Mavic 2 Enterprise isn’t limited to these applications. A range of other industries could also benefit. Chief of those are the utility industries who need to regularly inspect and monitor electricity grids, gas pipelines and sewage systems.

Building inspection: Building engineers often have to inspect hard to reach areas which often means hiring and assembling scaffolding or climbing ladders. This is both time consuming and dangerous. By using the spotlight with the high definition camera, building inspectors can quickly gain access to those hard to reach places to gain the necessary information.

Pipeline inspection: Infrastructure engineers can often be found down sewers inspecting pipe and brickwork. This is a dirty and dangerous task which is perfectly suited for drones. When fitted with prop cages, the Mavic 2 Enterprise can be safely flown along pipework to quickly gather information for the inspection report. The exact location of any leaks can also be established using this method, saving both time and money.

Wind turbine blade inspection: Traditionally, wind turbine blades are inspected by ground-based cameras or rope teams. While both these methods are valid ways of monitoring blade damage, they are not necessarily the most productive. By using the high definition camera of the Mavic 2 Enterprise, the leading edge of the blades could be inspected quickly. Photography and videography

Real estate videography: Real estate photographers can create stunning interior shots of properties using just the drone and spotlight. Nature videography: As any photographer knows, changing light conditions create opportunities for stunning photography. Exploration

Finally, this one is a little off the wall, but it certainly highlights how drones can be used to help map and explore the world around us. There is not much of our planet left to discover, but one area which is definitely underexplored is the ground underneath our feet.

Cave exploration: There are many thousands of miles of cave systems left undiscovered, mostly because they are too dangerous to venture into. But by using a compact Mavic 2 Enterprise, equipped with propeller cages, a high definition camera and 2,400-lumen spotlight, they won’t remain undiscovered for long. Hundreds of miles of cave systems could be explored and mapped this way without risking lives.
