I decided to publish a story I wrote in 2005 about a trip on the Paris Metro.
Paris Metro 2005
A man from India appeared floating above us on the Paris Metro, his arms filled with roses. He plucked three from the bunch and offered them to the man in the black Suit sitting next to me.
"Five Euros." he said, waving the roses. Each rose was wrapped individually. One red, one yellow, one white. He held the roses close to us as he hovered, his eyes intense with hope.
"No thank you!" said the man in the black suit firmly.
" I have five children to feed right here in my pocket." sighed the man, floating between heaven and earth.
"Look," said the man in black, "we don't want any!"
"What colour rose do you like?" I asked the man in the black suit. He looked confused but chose the red rose.
"How much?" I inquired.
"Five Euros." he replied holding out the red rose.
"You said five Euros for three!" said the man in black. "Thats rediculous five Euros for one rose!"
I scratched around in my purse. " This is Paris. What do you expect? I said.
The man in black quickly gave our companion two Euros. "Thats quite enough!" He said, indignantly.
The five children peered wide eyed from out of the pocket and shook their heads dissaprovingly. "Ugh! Ugh!" Their father handed the two Euros back as he swooped closer and looked us firmly in the eyes.
"Five Euros." he repeated.
"This is absurd!" said the man in the black suit, flushing with anger.
"Never give up." I said, as I handed a Euros to each of the five children in his worn coat pocket.
