San Galgano abbey

San Galgano Abbey  is situated 30km southwest of Siena and it’s famous for its roofless walls 13th century Gothic style abbey church. When we arrived there was a wedding ceremony so we had to wait to get in it.

The abbey was also a location that puts in Andrej Tarkovskij film “Nostalghia” (1983). Some shots from film:

And this last photo me reminds me somehow one painting of Swiss symbolist artist Arnold Bocklin “Isle of the Dead”. There are five versions (from 1880 until 1886):
