I got a call from Gary, the groom, a few weeks before the Wedding. He wanted to know if it he and Larissa cold get some photos after their wedding on stand up paddle boards. I called Eric Wight, the owner of Backroads Whistler, who has the canoe rental concession at Lakeside Park in Alta Vista. He was all for it, so after the wedding weeded down, rented some paddle boards, and got this really cool set of photos.

The paddle boarding turned out great. I was worried someone would fall off a board, but the weather was beautiful and everyone made it out without an icy swim in the lake.

We also did some conventional wedding portraits. A really nice day all the way around.

Tech Stuff
A tool I use all the time as a newspaper photographer, but hardly ever as a wedding photographer is a 2X tele-extender. When you mate it up to a 70-200mm lens, it makes it a 140-400mm lens. It also costs you two stops of light, and bit of image quality, but it’s a pretty good trade off. Here’s a tip, Nikon has several different generations of tele-extenders, but they’re all actually identically optically, all they do is change the housing. The one I have is an old AF-I version that was made in the mid-1990’s.
