This past week, I finally made it out to shoot landscapes with the Fuji XT5. A friend was heading up to the Lake District and asked if I wanted to join him.

We started the day up at Grange near to Keswick. The weather was dreadful with heavy rain, but we didn’t let that stop us. In the past, poor weather conditions have often created great photography. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and the morning was a bit of a wash out.

Consulting a weather app, we could see the rain was clearing from the South, so we headed down to Ambleside. Whilst the weather improved, we then had a dilemma. Where do we go for a good sunset? We had shot most of the locations we knew in better conditions, so trying them again felt like a waste. After a while we decided to drive down the Langdale Valley and ended up at Blea Tarn. We had always known this as a morning location and so didn’t expect much. How wrong we were.

This is one of my favourite shots of the evening. It’s taken with the Fuji XT5 and Fuji 16-80 lens at 60mm. I had the camera mounted on a tripod for an exposure of 1/17″ at f/11.0 and ISO125. I was also using a 3-stop soft ND grad filter on the sky. I then processed the RAW file using DxO PureRAW 3 followed by minor adjustments in Lightroom. I then finished the photo in the Nik Collection.

This one is also taken with the Fuji XT5 using a Fuji 16-80 lens at 16mm. It’s another tripod mounted exposure, this time of 1/8″ at f/11.0 and ISO125. The filter and processing workflow are the same as the other shot.
