Lately I’ve been trying to get back to my roots by Shooting more film.  I’ve mostly been shooting personal photography with film but have integrating more and more in to my wedding photography.  When I think of how hard my Grandfather had to work to end up with a final finished print in the 1920’s I feel a little spoiled with my digital cameras.  Not only that but I’ve been shooting Kodak’s new Portra 400 and I’m crazy about it.  This film develops exactly the way I see things and the output is exactly what I work to get out of my digital files.  All of the color images are photographed on my new Nikon F6.  It’s a joy to shoot with and goes toe to toe with my amazing D3s.  I love being able to pair old and new technology back to back in such a seamless way.  Try it…you’ll love it!

The black and white wedding photos are Shot on Ilford HP5 400 rated at 320 until the reception shots and those are 1600.  All of the film was processed and scanned by Precision Camera down in Austin.  I ship off my film to them and in about I week I get back the negatives and amazing 30 megapixel scans.  The service is great and I highly recommend them.  (Especially if they get a little more careful about the dust on my black and whites)  I push the limits of the light film and lens in the first dance shots only shooting at 1600 and not 3200 but I had my D3s shooting at 6400 on the other shoulder so no worries, right.  Next time I’m taking some Delta 3200!

The ceremony and  getting ready shots are on my Hexar RF rangefinder and the 50mm Hexanon f/2 lens as well as my Grandpa’s 55 year old Nikkor 3.5cm f/2.5 Leica screw mount lens.  I’ve just started shooting with a rangefinder for the first time since my Dad taught me what an F-stop was about 25 years ago.
