Sam and Lewis’ Wedding at The Brewery

The Brewery Wedding Photography in the City of London

Not sure how much of a piss-up it was, but Sam and Lewis’ certainly managed to organise a Wedding in The Brewery. This venue on the edge of the Barbican used to be a Whitbread brewery, but is now a brilliant wedding and events venue. It is also right next to The Montcalm London City hotel, which is where Sam had her preparations. She spent most of the morning with her mum, and her four bridesmaids arrived one by one. As it got nearer to the moment of truth, the stress started to get the better of Sam, and she needed some help to calm down. Happens to all the best brides. Once dressed and with flowers, it was time to head across to the heart of the Barbican for the ceremony.

St Giles’ Cripplegate Church Ceremony in Barbican

St Giles’ without Cripplegate church (to give it its full name) is one of the few remaining medieval churches in the city of London. It survived the Great Fire of London, and the blitz, and is where Oliver Cromwell was married. Now it sits slap bang in the middle of the modern Barbican estate, just across a bridge from The Brewery. There, Lewis and his groomsmen were handling the guest arrivals, closely followed by the bridesmaids. The bride came next in a very bling, white London taxi.

The church is fantastic to work in, with tons of light and space, and a very friendly vicar. No confetti allowed outside, so after the ceremony the couple left through a cloud of bubbles. Then they had a brief walk down to part of the original London city walls, close to where the gate that the church is named after would have been. Next, they jumped back in the cab for the short journey back to The Brewery.

Wedding Reception at The Brewery Wedding Venue

The rain that had threatened as the ceremony ended never reappeared. So, back in the courtyard outside The Brewery the wedding reception was in full swing. Lots of canapés, lots of fizz and then the guests headed inside for the wedding breakfast. This took them past a big screen with a slideshow of images and memories of the couples life together. In the King George III room there awaited a brilliant wedding cake reflecting Lewis’ love of boxing, and a replica of the couple’s pet lizard. There was a live singer as the food was served, and then speeches from Sam’s father, Lewis and his best man.

The evening entertainment continued the boxing theme with an arcade punch machine for the guests to try and out-macho each other. There was also an opportunity for the guests to get their photo with the Queen, if they were tall enough. The evening was complete with the cutting of the cake, and a first dance. The oldies even got in on the action!
