Danielle and Adam’s Wedding at Masseria Potenti

Masseria Potenti Wedding Photography in Puglia, Italy

This Masseria Potenti wedding was the latest in a long line of weddings for the same interconnected friends and family. A group of people who have been keenly loyal to, and trusting of, me and my work, and who I now consider to be friends. All of this made it a total pleasure to head over to Puglia in the heel of Italy and hang out in the sunshine for three days capturing one of the best parties I’ve ever attended!

I set off from the airport with the sun starting to set, gradually getting deeper into the Italian countryside. Eventually the shape of Masseria Potenti appeared on the otherwise empty landscape, with the welcome party already in full swing on the illuminated roof terrace. With familiar faces more common than not I ended up doing as much talking as shooting. I also got chance to say hello to Alex and Whitney from Sculpting With Time, two of the best filmmakers in the business. The evening ended with a line for line recreation of the musical Hamilton! Spot the stage school alumni…

The full beauty of Masseria Potenti became apparent the next morning when I headed across the courtyard for breakfast. The venue is a network of white stone buildings, filled with huge cacti and succulents, and decorated with a perfect combination of vintage fixtures and fittings. And hot. So very hot. Whilst the groom and many of the guests tried to keep cool in and around the pool, I found the bridal party engaged in a yoga session on the terrace of the bridal suite. With the exercise out of the way the preparations began in earnest with hair, make-up and speech writing.

The guys got ready in a room next to the ceremony space which sensibly was out of the sun, but still baking hot. Danielle’s mum helped her get into her dress, and then the now traditional reveal to the gathered bridesmaids. The ceremony was an extremely warm affair, with much wafting of orders of service. Friends were on singing and ceremony-conducting duty, before the whole congregation were called on for a singalong. Once the ‘paperwork’ was signed everyone headed back into the sun, to be greeted by a brass band and limoncello ice cream.

With initial meetings and greetings over, the happy couple snuck off to prepare for a surprise entrance. With the guests lined up with confetti in hands, Danielle and Adam appeared through the venue gates in a classic Fiat Nuova 500! Slightly worrying being in front of a moving vehicle driven by the ecstatic and distracted groom, but I survived! Best confetti throwing ever?

Music and dancing and eating and drinking followed, and brilliant illustrator Madalina Andronic was on hand to do portraits of everybody, having already produced all of the stationery. The drinks reception ended, as the sun began to set, with a couple of songs by the best man in a surprising outbreak of multi-tasking.

With the sun setting the guests took their seats at the tables where there was a personalised tambourine waiting for them. Then we had speeches, including a very competent rap from Danielle’s youngest sister. Darkness fell, food and drink aplenty were consumed, and then it was time for the first dance out in the courtyard.

After that everyone headed through to the other side of the venue to see the couple cut their wedding cake. As the deed was done the fireworks that Adam had ordered as a surprise kicked into action. And then the party really started. So much dancing, and water fights. Lots of water fights.

The next day the guests were surprisingly chipper, and the action was centred around the pool. Lots of ball throwing, human pyramid building and general hangover recovery. Bloody Mary’s were flowing freely and lunch was pizza from the on-site wood-fired pizza oven. There was time for gelato before things got competitive with races up and down the pool. The bride and groom even got in on the action. The weekend ended with more toasts and a lot more dancing.
