The body of the Instax Mini 40 is black paired with silver frames. Its case is black as well and is made of synthetic leather.
It’s slightly smaller than the Mini 11.
The case has details stitched on the edges and a shoulder strap. The new design is evidently more ‘vintage’ than the previous toy-like shape.
There are two buttons on the front face. One extends the lens barrel, the other releases the shutter.
The small mirror on the lens barrel is perfect for selfies, although the convex shape does distort your reflection a bit.
It has the Automatic Exposure feature which was introduced in the last year’s Instax Mini 11. Automatic Exposure works the same way auto mode works in DSLRs.
The camera adjusts settings like shutter speed, flash, etc. according to the conditions in which the picture is being taken.
Generally, when using instant cameras, the background comes out to be dark because of the flash. Thanks to the automatic exposure feature, the pictures will be better lit now.
There’s a Selfie mode that can be turned on by pulling out the front edge of the camera’s lens post switching it on.

Lastly, the Instax Mini 40 comes with the contact sheet featuring text in orange, which the company says will add a classical touch to a black frame. Fujifilm says that the design simulates a ‘contact sheet,’ a bromide sheet printed with photos taken in films to check individual images.
“We have packed our new mini 40 with features that enhance the user photography experience with Automatic Exposure, which delivers premium quality bright instant photo prints, and Selfie Mode for a quick selfie wherever you go. We want people to grab their Instax Mini 40 and showcase not only their creative expressions but also preserve memories that last forever,” Haruto Iwata, Managing Director, Fujifilm India said on the occasion.
