Sony NW-A100TPS Walkman: 40th Anniversary Edition Brings Back The Old Design

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sony just launched NW-A100TPS Walkman as its 40th-anniversary edition. Nostalgia is a strong emotion and this walkman brings it back.

The company revealed this walkman with a retro-inspired design on Thursday at the IFA technology conference in Berlin. Remember what a rage it was when the first walkman was introduced?

The first Sony Walkman

The first Sony Walkman was launched in the year 1979.

On July 1, 1979, Sony Corp. introduced the Sony Walkman TPS-L2, a 14 ounce, blue-and-silver, portable cassette player with chunky buttons, headphones and a leather case. It even had a second earphone jack so that two people could listen in at once.

About the 40th Anniversary NW-A100TPS Walkman

Though it looks like you need a cassette to play songs, you don’t need them. The NW-A100TPS Walkman has a battery life of 26 hours and comes with Bluetooth connectivity.

It has an Android operating system and provides high-resolution audio. The 40th-anniversary edition will be available in stores from November.

There is a special soft case which comes with the player which means it closely resembles the very first cassette player, the TPS-L2, released in July 1979.

The softcover makes the walkman look like the TPS-L2 and you can even see the cassette cogs turning inside.

But that is not a real cassette being played. It is just a video playing on the display. When you touch the screen and remove the cover, the details of the track like album art being played will be displayed on the screen.

The design is very quirky and gives you a retro feel with the cogs turning, a real classic.

After changing the track and closing the cover, the cassette video of turning cogs will resume.

The storage isn’t huge – 16GB – so you can’t have your entire music library on it. And many people will want to stick with just their phone. Unless they listen to how good this sounds.
