According to a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo from 9to5mac, Apple has been working on developing an augmented reality headset.
This pair of augemented reality glasses is expected to enter into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2019 and might be released in the first half of 2020.

You’ll need an iPhone to be able to use the Augmented Reality handset because it is dependent on the iPhone to function.
The headset will act as a display for the information transmitted through the iPhone. As they’re worn like glasses usually are, you’ll be able to see the information displayed directly in front of your eyes.
All the technicalities like location services, internet connection and computing will be done by iPhone.
The report given by Kuo doesn’t specify what you will find in the headset. It can come with embedded displays and sensors to enable the headset to be aware of its surroundings.
Apple has already experimented with augmented reality with its ARKit framework on iOS. Developers have been able to build apps that integrate digital elements in the real world, as viewed through your phone cameras.
While many apps have added AR features, most of them feel gimmicky and don’t add any real value. There hasn’t been a ton of AR-native apps either.
One interested use case for augmented reality is mapping. Google recently unveiled an augmented reality mode for Google Maps. You can hold your phone in front of your face to see arrows indicating where you’re supposed to go.
