Xiaomi announced the global beta version of MIUI 10 that brings updates ranging from UI interface to new camera capabilities. Earlier, Xiaomi listed a total of 15 phones that will get the update, currently it has rolled out the Beta version to only six popular devices Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi MIX 2, Redmi S2, Redmi Note 5 Pro/Redmi Note 5 and Mi MIX 2S. For other devices, Xiaomi is expected to release the beta later.  The devices list is  as follows:

• Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, MI MIX, upcoming Mi MIX 2S
• Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5, Mi 5X, Mi 4S, Mi 4C, Mi 4, Mi 3
• Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi Note 2
• Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max,
• Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 3 Pro/Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 4G Prime,
• Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5A, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, Redmi 4 Prime, Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Redmi Pro, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3, Redmi 3X

The company had said that the stable version of MIUI 10 — which will have design, performance and camera updates — will start rolling out in September to: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 5, Mi Note 2, Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 4 (India), Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 5, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4X smartphones. MIUI 10 update will not be rolled out to some older models because they have low processing speeds.

Product Manager Sudeep Sahu said that with MIUI 10, Xiaomi’s focus is on speed, design, sound and AI Portrait image capturing. In terms of performance, MIUI 10 comes with two new features called “lock free critical path” and “co-dependent prioritizing”, which are said to improve speed times of their devices by up to 10 percent.

All the icons have been rounded. There are some changes in the audio as well. The notification tone will vary with every message received and nature sounds are introduced in timer app. The “recent” screen has been modified and users will now be able to scroll down to get a stacked card view of their recently used apps. Users will be able to swipe to remove apps or long press on an app for accessing shortcuts like the split view. When it comes to design, the company included gestures working as navigation keys.

There are features which are introduced specifically for Indian users. Now the camera app will be able to recognize Paytm QR codes too.

Users who have registered for Global Beta ROM for the update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. You can also download the update through the Updater app. Xiaomi announced the MIUI Global ROM at an event where it launched Redmi Y2.
