Belinda Says Hay: “Northern Lights”

Belinda Says Hay: “Northern Lights”

Hello. It's Belinda.

I hope I get this blog done in time. The weather app says there's a tornado heading our way. Can you believe it? We're not supposed to have tornados in Pittsburgh.

My roommate is down here on the bottom level hanging a tarp over the window.

"Sorry it's so dark, bunnies."

That's the least of my worries.

OK enough "intro."

Today I want to write about hay with a small "tangent" about the Northern Lights.

It all started last Friday night. About an hour after dinner salads.

I was relaxing beside the dryer, eating some orchard hay.

Little Fang was in her pen making eyes at the English.

He was in his own pen, right beside hers. I don’t know what he was doing. Not my thing.

Suddenly my roommate ran down the steps from the kitchen.

"I'm going out for a bit, bunnies. The Northern Lights are out tonight. Can you believe it?"

Her Voice Sounded like Christmas.

"I never thought we'd see them here!"

She rushed around giving us each a piece of loop.  Then she ran back up the steps. I heard the front door close.

I had no idea what she meant by "Northern Lights." I like things dark to be honest. Most rabbits do.

Suddenly I noticed Little Fang was looking at me.

“What was she talking about?”

I don’t know, I said.

I had to say it twice because I was still chewing hay.

We both glanced at the window over the dryer. It looked like a normal night outside.

Then it started.

“I know all about the Northern Lights.”

Oh brother.

It was the English.

I turned my back and walked to my sleeping rug. Not in the mood.

He didn’t take the hint.

“The Northern Lights are from the eclipse. When the sun went black last month some rainbows froze around the North Pole."

His voice sounded like he was making the whole thing up.

"Well the rainbows are finally melting. They're leaking all over the sky.”

He was silent for a moment.

I pretended to groom my shoulder but I snuck a look at Little Fang. I wanted to make a face. She'd know what I meant.

But she didn't see me. She was staring at the English as if he had hung the moon.

“You know something about everything,” she told him.

Good grief.

I guess the English saw my expression because he moved his chin up a few inches. So he could look down his nose.

“You should write about the rainbows leaking in your blog. People need to know.”

I pretended I didn’t hear him. I’m not going to write about his “hare-brained” theories in my blog. Not when people expect to read about hay.

Hay is the whole point of this blog. Not “mysteries of the sky.”

Speaking of that. The wind is getting noisy outside.

I hope we don't lose pow

Sincerely,

Belinda
