Chandigarh civic body has now fixed the pet Dog limit for House owners to keep them as per the house size. If the dogs are found over the prescribed house limit, the owners will be penalized and impounded.

Now, the feeding areas for the community dogs will be fixed. As per the law, “throws eatables in public place, other than those designated by the RWA enticing the community dogs to assemble at such place for taking eatables which result in causing danger to human life.”

The law has been approved in the new Chandigarh pet and community dog bylaws tabled before the general house on Monday. The penalties for violating new dog bylaws range from Rs. 200 to Rs. 10,000. The bylaws were tabled a few months ago, but the councilors suggested incorporating points.

Here are the rules as per the limit fixed:

A house owner with less than or equal to five marla houses can keep one pet dog. However, it is subject to keeping a maximum of three dogs per house if more than one family resides in the same house but on different floors.

House more than 5 marlas but less than or equal to 12 marlas can keep two dogs subject to a maximum of three dogs per house in case of residing of more than one family but on different floors.

Next, in houses which are more than 12 marlas and less or equal to one kanal house, you can keep only three dogs, out of which one must be an adopted Indie/mongrel dog subject to a maximum of five dogs per house in case more than one family residing in the house but on different floors.

Now, in Chandigarh houses that have more than one kanal, four dogs are allowed, out of which you should have two mongrel/Indie dogs, subject to a maximum of six dogs per house in case of more than one family residing in the same house but on different floors. If any family keeps more than two dogs, the others must be indie/mongrel dogs.
