Tizer the Lhasa Apso: A Walk Up Kinder Scout

Hey everyone,

My name's Tizer, and I'm a Lhasa Apso.

You all know by now how much I absolutely LOVE going for epic walks, and I manage to go on Lots and lots of walks every year. Sometimes I go for local walks - and there are some fantastic places in and around Sunderland: Herrington Country Park, Penshaw Monument, Roker and Seaburn Beach, Barnes Park, Doxford Park, Silksworth Lakes - then further afield, the likes of Rowlands Gill, Gibside, Castle Eden Dene and such.

You know from this blog that I've been to all those places and more, but one of my favourite places in the country is Derbyshire. There are lots and lots of fantastic walks in and around Derbyshire and the Peak District, so this week I want to share with you an epic walk that I did up Kinder Scout.

According to Wikipedia, "Kinder Scout is a moorland plateau and National Nature Reserve[2] in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District in England. Part of the moor, at 636 metres (2,087 ft) above sea level, is the Highest Point in the Peak District, the highest point in Derbyshire, and the highest point in the East Midlands. In excellent weather conditions the city of Manchester and the Greater Manchester conurbation can be seen, as well as Winter Hill near Bolton, and the mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales." So you see, this walk wasn't going to be a leisurely stroll.

We started off nice and early, and it was a perfect day for walking. Slightly overcast, no direct sun, and a little bit cool. But there would be plenty of time to warm up!

Ah, yes. Here he is. Looking all ready to go walking, with his boots, pants, backpack and trusty stick. I don't need a stick. I'm a Lhasa Apso.

This was a MASSIVE Reservoir that we had to walk all the way around, which didn't look very small, but took absolutely ages. It felt like we were on an alien planet at some points.

Same reservoir, further along.

It got pretty hilly, pretty quickly. But I loved it. There was a stream all the way alongside for most of the way, and I was able to dip my paws in there often to cool down.

Sometimes I was in front, sometimes I was behind, but I kept moving all the time.

This is the view from further up. That reservoir looks a lot smaller now!

It was quite dry - this was supposed to be a waterfall, but it was just a trickle. But it would look fantastic at full force!

This was pretty much as high as we got. That reservoir looks tiny now - and we had to go all the way back to it!

On the home stretch, heading back to the car (and my bed!)

That was an epic walk.

Thanks for popping by today, feel free to check out my other posts, and don't forget that I have my own super page on Facebook - just search for Tizer the Lhasa Apso!

See you next week!
