As we all know, the new Fall TV season has just started. New and returning shows are coming on.

However (to me), Cable prices have gone up. I cannot afford cable TV at the moment.

Cable bills are probably hurting your budget too.

Today, I would like to discuss how you can have the features of cable without paying for cable.

Here we go….

-Like cable for local channels to watch your local newscast and local channel programming?

• If you live in an urban or suburban area, consider getting an antenna for your television. You can watch your local channels without having to pay a monthly fee with this gadget. Plus with the new the digital format they have modern antennas, you can also watch additional subchannels such as movie channels and sitcom rerun channels.
• You might able to watch your favorite newscast online. Some local channels have it now where you can catch the news in your area on their website. I can watch the newscast of my local NBC affiliate online when their newscast airs.
• CBS has their own service called “CBS All Access” where you can watch all of your favorite CBS shows and possibly watch your local CBS station. The service costs around $6 per month (https://www.cbs.com/all-access/)

-Do you use cable to watch movies and TV shows?

• For recent TV shows, go to the network’s website and see if you can watch the show for free. Some networks will let you watch the most recent episodes of a show for free.
• You can also watch past episodes of recent TV shows (and some classic TV shows) on Hulu for around $8 per month (www.hulu.com)
• If you are more of a movie person, Netflix (www.netflix.com) is a better way to go. Plans start around $8 per month. It’s also a great place to watch original series such as Fuller House.

-Like watching sports?

• If you like NFL, MLB, College Football, NBA, and NHL, consider listening to your favorite teams on TuneIn.com
• If you like an SEC team (college football) and your team is on CBS that Saturday, you can watch it for free on CBSSports.com
• For MLB games, consider an MLB.TV Subscription (Around $85 per year if you follow a specific team out of market; Around $110 if you follow several teams)

However, I know some people have cable channels they like and they are not ready to give those channels up.

Here are some cable alternatives that might include some of your favorite cable channels (Good news on these is that there is no long term contract with them if you are not satisfied like you would have with a cable or satellite company):

• Sling TV (www.sling.com)- It includes channels such as ESPN, CNN, HGTV, TBS, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Food Network, Lifetime, A&E, TNT, Comedy Central, FOX and NBC (in some select markets). Plans start at $20 per month.
• Playstation Vue (www.playstation.com/vue)- It includes channels such as ESPN, AMC, CMT, CNN, Fox News, TLC, WE, USA, VH-1, MTV,  Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Freeform, Food Network, Discovery Channel, Comedy Central, TV Land, OWN, HGTV, FX, Disney Channel. Plans start at $30 per month.

You can still be entertained without having cable. You have to find out what works best for you and your family.
