Sell September

Hey everyone,

I hope you all had a great weekend.

Over the weekend, I did some house cleaning and I found items I don’t use anymore.

I decided to sell those items if they are in decent condition. I will put that Money towards an emergency fund. Whatever I don’t sell, I will give away to charity.

Here is how I did it:

  • I went through each room and found items that have not been used in a while or I have never used at all. I put those items in a big box.
  • On clothing, I tried on all of the pieces I had to see if they still fit me or not. If they didn’t and were in good condition, I put them in the sell pile. If they had blemishes, I put them in a donate pile (and I will donate those items to my local crisis center).

  • On electronics, I made sure they were still working. If they worked, I put them in a sell pile. If they didn’t work, I threw them away. I don’t like selling broken electronics to people.

  • On books, I made sure that there were no markings and minimal folds in the books. If there were markings or minimal folds, I put the books in a donate pile.

  • On DVDs, I made sure that they still played and that there weren’t any scratches to the discs.

Below are some items that I plan on selling:

What do I need to do next?

  • Inspect and clean each item to the best of my ability before I sell it to anyone.
  • Do research on each item and determine if they will sell better on Ebay or on a local Facebook auction group.
  • Take pictures of each item.
  • List each item I plan on selling.
  • Pay attention to which items sold and get them ready to be either shipped (and ship them out) or put together in a big box for the meetup for the local auction group.
  • Wait to collect the money.
  • Donate the items I put in the donate pile.

I will do those steps later on this week. On Friday, I will give you an update on how it’s going with Sell September.

What can you do if you want to participate in Sell September (Friday, I will tell you where you can use the money you sold items can go towards)?

  • Go through your house and find items you don’t use anymore and either put them in a sell pile or donate pile. Look for items that have never been opened or used. Those items might make a lot of money for you.
  • Inspect each item you decide to sell and make sure that there are not any blemishes on the items. If there are, just donate the items. If you sell electronics or DVDs please make sure they work (make sure there are not any scratches on the DVDs).
  • Clean each item to the best of your ability before you start selling the items.
  • Research and find out where your items would sell best on. For example, used brand name clothing would probably sell better on Ebay. Bigger items and items that would cost a lot to ship would do better on a Facebook Yard Sale group or auction page.
  • Take good pictures of each item you want to sell.
  • When listing each item, be honest about the condition of each item and let buyers know if there are any minor defects to the product you are selling. You don’t want to have buyers getting mad at you; getting horrible feedback online, and losing money on items you sold. If you sell on Ebay, find out how much money similar items to yours are going for.
  • When an item sells, make sure you get it to the buyer. If you sold something on Ebay, ship the item out to the customer as quickly as possible. If you sold something on a Facebook Yard Sale group, ask the customer where they want you to meet them at and meet up with them to give them the item they bought from you (Some groups have weekly meetup places).
  • Make sure you get your money. Once you get it, put it in a safe place and count it up at the end of the month. Put it to where you want to put it.
