Here's the idea when on vacation rather than carrying an expensive cell Phone, buy an inexpensive one. If it gets lost the replacement costs $100 rather than $500. If the phone doubles as a internet computer, there is less to carry. This is here the Posh S700a from Amazon come in. It is a small tablet that is also a cell phone. Unfortunately it didn't come with a users manual. We checked the manufacturer's website and there were no user instructions.
The plan was to move the SIM chip from our existing AT&T phone to the Posh phone while we are on the road. It turned out to be simple.
1. We powered done both the Galaxy 5 and the Posh phone.
2. We removed the SIM from the Galaxy 5 and inserted it into Posh.
3. When we powered the Posh on and tried to make a phone call. Nothing happened at first. Then a pop-up appeared saying it has found the SIM card. A moment later I was able to make a phone call.
We were just in Thailand. The sim card we bought in Bangkok fit in the top slot.
The phone comes with 4G of RAM, half for the operating system. So, it won't hold very many apps. The writeup said the phone could be expanded to 32G by inserting a mini-SD RAM card. So I had to buy a 64G card. It was simple to insert and the phone asked if I wanted t use the mini SD card as the primary memory. I said yes. It was that simple.
How does the phone perform in general?
The phone works fine in general. We made phone calls ans surfed the internet.
The colors displayed are dull. The GPS was a disaster. We used the map app, every so many seconds the phone would change it's mind and place us on a different place on the map. Out location would change by about 2 miles each time.
