What’s it like to work @Avant? We asked Hannah for her take on our culture, and here’s what she said:

1. How would you describe Avant’s culture?

We are fast-paced, dynamic, and ever-changing. There’s always something new to do, some new project to work on, so I never feel like I’m doing the same type of work over and over and over. Since I started in 2018, I’ve been able to Grow a more narrow job description into an entirely new, sustainable function that helps our business. And I did it while working on things that I wanted to work on.

We’re also really collaborative. Avant is not siloed! You get exposure to lots of different people and teams and activities, not just your one little piece of the pie.

2. Why are you happy here?

I’m happy because I’m constantly challenged to build new skills, work on interesting things, and grow into new responsibilities. I’ve gotten to work on the kinds of projects I never imagined I’d be able to, like when we split the company into two in 2020. That helped me grow as a person, and will help my career down the road.

I’m successful because of the way I establish relationships, which is really important at Avant. In my role, it can be easy to fall into that “I need this from you, can you give it to me” transactional dynamic. So I make a point to be a true partner and get to know the people I work with, and that makes a difference. We all really want to connect as people, not as worker robots.

3. What’s your favorite thing about the way your specific job role works?

What I like the best about my role is that it’s really what you make it. When I see new places to apply my skills, I usually get the opportunity to try it. A lot of roles at Avant are that way, and I love that. At the risk of sounding lame, success is yours for the taking!

And, it’s never boring. If I were anywhere else at my job level, I would be doing really boring stuff, over and over. That’s how my last job was, and my career felt more stagnant. I think Avant is the right place for me right now because we’re always trying to do something new, and that allows me to challenge myself and grow.

4. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

According to my mom, I wanted to be a zookeeper for all of the imaginary elephants I pretended were in our backyard
