There are a wide variety of factors that control the price of Auto Insurance. Much of it has to do with simply the location you are driving in. After all, some places are more dangerous than others when it comes to driving. If you are moving to another city or have simply never purchased auto insurance before, there is really no way to know what the price will be. Even if you are the safest driver in the world, the environment you drive in might not be so kind, making your premiums higher anyway. Luckily, there are studies online that can show us which places in America have the most and least expensive auto insurance.
So, what is the most expensive city to buy car insurance in? Well, according to a study done by NerdWallet, that city is Detroit, Michigan. The average price for auto insurance in Detroit is around $10,700. Wow! That’s is a lot! Why is it so expensive? There are too many factors at play to cover all of them. However, we do know that above anything else, the statistics of car accidents in Detroit is definitely the top factor at play here. Every year, there are more car wrecks in Detroit than anywhere else. There are also a lot of cases of car theft and vandalism. All of these issues are considered when putting a price-tag on an auto insurance policy.
So, how about the city with the cheapest car insurance? According to the same study, researchers found that the city with the least expensive auto insurance is Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The average price for car insurance in Winston-Salem is only $970. Wow! that is way lower than the prices in Detroit. It is hard to believe that the price of auto insurance can vary that much between cities. Again, it completely depends on the auto industry statistics of that particular place. If Detroit’s auto insurance is expensive because of high crime rates and high rates of car accidents, then we can assume that Winston-Salem’s prices are based on the opposite. In the world of insurance, it always comes down to risk. Since the area of Winston-Salem is less risky in most aspects, insurers are willing to charge less for their policies.
