Fonts can influence how people view information, and it is crucial that your information is properly portrayed. There is a good amount of fonts trends that can hopefully give your design a simple but outstanding makeover.

Besides the obvious areas to install fonts, I have also found several lesser know websites to get free quality fonts.

Google Fonts

Google which is widely used by web designs has one of the biggest libraries of internet-ready don’t available, it has more than 900 different fonts and thanks to its design is much more easy to use.

The best thing about Google Fonts is a flexible don’t preview feature. You can choose to preview an article or sentence with any specified font from the home page of the website. You may also increase the font size or change to a different font type.

It makes the website runs faster by securely caching fonts without jeopardizing privacy or security. It’s cross-site caching is optimized so you only have to load a font once,  with any websites using the same font on any websites that use Google fonts.

Summary:

  • Easy to use
  • Free

Font Squirrel

Font Squirrel is a free website that allows you to access fonts for commercial use without having to pay for them, best of all the quality is very high and very easy to navigate.

The platform makes it fairly easier for users to check the licenses for each font before downloading them to prevent problems. It also gives you a number of different fonts including everything from classic styles to more diverse and complex fonts.

Summary:

  • Easy to preview
  • All fonts are free as I previously stated
  • Terms and Conditions vary from font to font

DaFont

Arguably the most popular and one of the oldest font websites the in world. In addition, there is a valid reason for this. It is simply easy to use, you can look up for the font you like by browsing the various categories that are available. One thing you are sure to appreciate is that with just one click you could see what a specific text looks like when it’s written in a font you like.

Dafont has a category model right up at the top, it’s the best starting point. Start exploration of a sub-category such as a cartoon and handwritten style. It provides designers a simple way to easily discover fonts for different kinds of projects.

Summary:

  • Easy preview
  • Organized
  • Some fonts are low quality

MyFonts

MyFonts has over 130000 fonts to their catalog but I was not going to include them as they have a little bit higher price range but as their name suggests they are primarily the fonts company.

I could be wrong but I found no information regarding them offering free fonts but I did notice that they have a lot of sales up to 80%off. there are a lot of cheap great alternative to My Fonts that you can find if you look hard enough.

Like most font companies their license comes with either personal or commercial usage so do check first.

Summary:

  • Has both personal and commercial license
  • Registration is Required
  • Easy use

Font Bundles

The FontBundles.net website has both free and paid fonts, their Free Fonts section lists hundreds of free fonts that you can download and use for free, all you have to do is sign up for an account. Font Bundle is fairly a newcomer when it comes to design (has been in existence since 2016) but has stepped up the ladder to be one of the go-to from graphic designers thanks to the quality of the work they put out.

The fonts available are not only some of the best variety you will see digitally, but it is also some of the highest quality and best value. I checked out the website for the first time and I was surprised how great the content was considering the low price/free of their designs.

Some of the free fonts on Fontbundles come with a personal and a commercial license so do check before downloading.

Did I also mention that they have a Free Font of the week every week!

Summary:

  • Easy to use
  •  Registration required to download
  • Free font
  • Has both commercial and personal license

Abstract Fonts

Abstract Fonts are simple and easy to use and most importantly it very quick to find your way around, their fonts are alphabetically arranged and also by their designers. You can use the search feature if you already know the font you are looking for.

Some of the hosted fonts are free (for personal use) while some free for commercial use so do check the license first. Abstract Fonts is an alternative option if you are looking for different fonts than typical fonts found on most websites.

Summary:

  • Has  a clean interface
  • It does not require registration but if you do there is a benefit of downloading a file in a zip file.

 1001 Fonts

Actually, it has 10000 fonts which you can download for free or you can choose to donate to the designer. Probably the oldest (since 1998 to be exact) in the world of free fonts.

The first thing you will notice is that the font previews are nice and big.

You may search the fonts alphabetically or category or even view their popularity. Although most of the fonts are free of charge as at 1001 Fonts, it important to state that a small proportion of them are paid.

Summary:

  • Has custom preview but
  • Limited to only 20 characters

UrbanFonts

The best way to describe UrbanFonts is that It is a  polished and modern version of DaFont (oops), as they have the structure but that said they offer o lot of free options for your brand.

while their preview feature has all the standards it also allows you to modify the font in any color or background.

Summary:

  • Eady to use
  • Downloads are free
  • Licensing not clear, check first

Front Zone

FrontZone has a library of over 50 000 free fonts.

It uses different parameters to group their fonts ex. Alphabetically, reputation and also by categories. When you don’t know which don’t you need, these categories will help you find those that suit the look you want.

Summary:

  • You can see just how the design would look like before downloading
  • It does not require the account to use only optional.
  • Has limited preview though.

Dribble

While I was researching for this post Dribbble came up a lot, before then I didn’t know much about them but turns out to be the go-to for designers.  Dribble’s collection is not as big as others on this list but still useful.

At first glance, you may look away as there are not Fonts only website however once you’ve started browsing their platform is easy to use.

To start just search “free fonts” and you are good to go.

Summary:

  • Small library
  • Easy to use

There are a lot more companies that you can use to find cheap or free fonts so press that search button before you spend your dollars. Apart from Google has competition is very high when it comes to online graphic design most companies have little or no choice to offer free products to attract new customers.
