Fine Motor Activities

Fine Motor Activities!

My daughter really needs to beef up her Fine Motor skills and so any additional toddler activities I can have her do the better she gets at developing those muscles.  I love discovering new ways DIY activities to not only keep her occupied, but also any activity that is productive and not including TV time is a big Bonus!

The first Fine Motor Activity is extremely simple and you need just one product.

  • PAPER!

That’s it!! I happened to have pink colored paper, so that’s what we used.  If you have been following my posts pink and purple happened to be my daughter’s favorite colors.  So anything involving those colors usually is a win.  Take letter size paper and rip or cut it into four sections. Present the squares to your toddler and have them rip the papers into as many tears as they can. This ripping and tearing of the paper strengthens their pincher finger muscles and works on their fine Motor skills.  Easy, inexpensive and productive. You can also take a hole puncher and have them hole punch the paper to work on their motor skills.

Fine Motor Threading Toddler Activity:

The next fine motor activity is just as simple and uses 2 products and is known as a threading activity.

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Cheerios or dried pasta

Have your toddler sit down with a bowl of dry Cheerios and a few pipe cleaners.  Show them how to put the Cheerios on the pipe cleaner. The threading action is what is helping them use their fine motor skills.  This also will strengthen and develop those muscles.  You can use this “threading” technique with shoelaces instead of pipe cleaners or anything that you can find to have your child thread something. Sofia loves to snack on Cheerios so when she was finished threading, I let her eat the Cheerios. She had a lot of fun with this activity.  The threading technique is really endless with the ideas you can come up with, to get them interested in the activity.

Hope you find this useful! What are some of your favorite fine motor toddler activities? If you like this post check out another fine motor activity using colored straws!
