Positive Birth Affirmations

Positive Birth Affirmations!

Affirmations are defined as the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment—fostering a belief that “a positive mental attitude supported by Affirmations you will achieve success in anything. Without planning it my husband gave me Birth Affirmations during my labor which I feel really got me through it, especially the critical moments.  Looking back if I had practiced using affirmations myself, I think things would have gone that much smoother. Thankfully, the hubs and nurses picked up the slack.

We took the La Maze class to get an idea of what to expect and learn about the different stages of labor.  So we would know how things may go etc. However from the start of my labor, my contractions never followed the 5 minutes apart and 1 minutes long, or the average time for when your water breaks etc.  I was told in La Maze class that you can bring to the hospital, music you may like to listen to or a picture or object to use as a focal point.  I have to laugh when I think about that.  Since those options never even had a chance of happening.

As I said my contractions were literally on top of each other (so I never got any rest).  I felt like I waited forever to get the epidural (props to those moms that go natural). Then after I finally got the epidural, I went from 4cm to 10 cm in a little over 10 minutes. A short time after that, both myself and my baby’s heart rate dropped and I had to be rolled to my side and have an oxygen mask on. NICU rushed in just in case. It basically was a very intense whirlwind!

In the end, baby and I were fine, but I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride and wanted to get off.  I couldn’t remember to breathe through the contractions, in fact, I did the opposite.  I really was so overwhelmed or in pain that I had no time to think. Pretty much before I started to panic my husband started reassuring me. That reassurance helped me through the pain and to refocus. I was able to push through it. Just hearing all of these positive affirmations really gave me something to concentrate on, be calmer, and they gave me strength.

6 Top Birth Affirmations:

Looking back I think the best part was that my husband said all these positive Birth affirmations to me unprompted.  He was just as scared as I was but wanted to do something to help. Probably prompted by not wanting to have his hand squeezed repeatedly, by my death grip, during contractions!  It may seem like such a small thing to have someone say “Breathe” but for me, I can’t tell you enough, how much it helped!

I hope you can use these affirmations as an inspiration.  Try to think of what positive phrase you would either say to yourself or have your partner say to you! I promise it will help with any pain, fear or difficulties you may face. Please share this with dads that are expecting.  This is such a small thing that they can do that will help in a big way! Best of luck!
