How to Make Slime Just Like the Kind You Can Buy At the Toy Store

So, let me guess—your on a hunt to find the Recipe to make the ooey gooey awesome store grade slime? Well then, consider yourself lucky that you found my post, because I really want to share how to make store bought Slime with you! The recipe is rather quite simple, you'll be surprised. Now, before you start thinking that this recipe is yet again the same old recipe you find floating around on Pinterest and countless mommy blogs, allow me to reassure you by telling your it's not. While the ingredients are very much similar, (as Walter White says) with a little tweak of chemistry —you get real deal slime you find at toy stores. This slime is way more superior to the Elmer's Glue recipe, I promise! I bet you're excited aren't you?
EXPERIMENT MATERIALS
4% polyvinyl alcohol solution (Clear PVA) 2 ounces (60mL) or contact Lens Wetting solutionBorax-(most commonly used to clean laundry) 1 tablespoon (15mL)Plastic cupPopcicle stickMeasuring spoons/cupPaper towels (come, on now—you already know it's gonna get messy, don't fight it!)Large Zip-Lock bagFood coloring
What is PVA Used For Anyway?
Let's quickly discuss exactly what PVA is, to help put worrying minds to ease.  PVA is used to make things such as artificial sponges, printing inks and hoses. Another very common product made with PVA—contact lens wetting solutions, so it acts like a lubricant and cleanser.
Let me let you in on a little secret—just replace the PVA with contact lens wetting solution. I've tried it before, it works just as good and is way cheaper than buying PVA solution. Please note—if you decide to purchase through any of the items from Amazon through the links that I've provided you, I will receive a small commission. (Thank you in advance!)
Ok, so now that we have that out of the way—let's move on to find out how to make it!
Slime Directions
First start by placing 2 ounces (60mL) of PVA into your plastic cup.Nest, add 1 tablespoon (15mL) of Borax powder to your cup and stir thoroughly. Continue stirring until the PVA and Borax are completely mixed into one big clump.Add your coloring.
Guess what? That's it! See, I told you it was that simple!
Tips:
I like using the clear PVA solution because you can create any slime colors you want. If you get a colored PVA solution, your color selection will be more scarce.
You can add a little more Borax to the mixture to make your slime more firm. Just don't go overboard because adding too much Borax will break down your slime will become a liquid mess!
Bonus, DIY Galaxy Slime!
You can also make pretty metallic slime often referred to as Galaxy Slime, simply by adding a drop of one extra ingredient called titanium dioxide into the PVA solution.
You can purchase a 4.4 oz bag of titanium dioxide powder on Amazon, which is enough for two uses.
Storing Your Slime for Later
Plop your homemade slime into a Zip-Lock bag, remove the air and seal closed.
So, there you have it! Now you know how to make slime like the pro's! Every time my son and I make slime, we always have so much fun and I know you and your little one will have a blast too!
