By now, I'm sure you've heard of all the wonderful health benefits of coconut oil, but have you ever heard of coconut oil pulling for oral health? If you haven't, don't feel bad—I hadn't either until I came across Mouth Monsters for kids.
Are Baby Teeth Really That Important?
Baby teeth don't always seem to get the respect they deserve. After all, baby teeth are only around for a short period of time and then fall out, right? WRONG! Ourchildren's baby teeth (also referred to as primary or milk teeth) play very important roles right from the start. They help with chewing, swallowing, speaking, and also hold a space in the gums for adult teeth to grow and eventually replace those baby teeth.
How Do Baby Teeth Guide Adult Teeth?
Baby teeth have an extremely thin root (similar to a piece of thread). As the adult teeth begin to grow in, the roots of the baby teeth are broken down, causing the baby tooth become loose and eventually fall out. As the baby tooth root dissolve, this helps the adult tooth find it's correct spot.
Any time a child's tooth becomes loose, food can become trapped between the loose tooth and gums, which is a breeding playground for bacteria. It's important that your child's teeth are brushed at the gum lines for this very reason. This is crucial because cavities can actually develop in their forming adult teeth before they're even completely formed!
Sugary and processed foods are everywhere which can easily lead to gum disease and tooth decay. Since baby teeth have a much thinner enamel than adult teeth, it makes it easier for rapid tooth decay when sugar intake is present and proper oral is not (often called "baby bottle tooth decay). With chemical Mouth wash intended for adult use only, what other methods can we use to keep our children's teeth healthy? Oil pulling is the answer!
What Is Oil Pulling?
involves theprocess of your child swishing an oil around their mouth for 5-15 minutes which helps in eliminatingstains on their teeth, as well as reducing bacterial in their mouth, which helps your child maintainhealthier gums.
Other oils can be used for the oil pulling method such as:
Coconut oilOlive oilSesame oilSometimes a mixture of all three is used
All of these oils can reach the similar results, but there are several reason why coconut oil remains the most favored of all oils due to its effectiveness.
Depending on your taste buds, coconut oil tends to taste the best (especially among children). It it loaded with antioxidants and 50% of the fatty acids contained in coconut oil are Lauric Acids which kill harmful bacteria found in your child's mouth.Improve gum health due to its moisturizing properties.Since coconut oil can taste a little bitter, flavors can be added to make the oil pulling process more enjoyable for your child.Safely and naturally removes stains on the teeth.Helps soften the plaque on teeth to aid in removing more plaque from your child's teeth while brushing.
MouthMonsters
is an instant acting coconut mouthwash that's aalternative for children.
MouthMonsters utilizes a unique method to extract the coconut oil, called Vitalock which ensures that all the great benefits of the coconut are being transferred to the final product (coconut oil) losing any of those beneficial nutrients.
Our two-week supply came in individually sealed packets that you tear open at the top and a super cute Mouth Monsters target to use as a spitting guide.
We received the mint ice cream and strawberry ice cream flavored Mouth Monsters.
Mouth Monsters is organic, does not contain sugar, chemicals, or fluoride.
How To Use Mouth Monsters
Using Mouth Monsters was very simple and easy!
1. Squeeze Mouth Monsters into your mouth. My son is the type of kid that will spit something out right away if he doesn't like how it tastes, but this wasn't the case with Mouth Monsters! We tried both flavors and he loved them, though he said the strawberry was his favorite.
Of course, I wanted to try out Mouth Monsters to give a more thorough review, so I decided to try put both flavors as well. The flavoring tasted just like mint and strawberry ice cream, but wan't over powering! The texture has a thin oily consistency to it that almost seemed somewhat warm, which I didn't mind at all.
2. Swish around teeth & gums for 5-15 minutes. At first I wasn't sure how long my three-year-old son was going to be able to swish Mouth Monsters for, but to my surprise he last for about 10 minutes!
3. Place your Mouth Monsters target at the bottom of your sink, spit Mouth Monsters out while trying to aim for the target. My son got an absolute kick out of spitting on the target, what kid wouldn't?!
4. Show off that beautiful bright smile!
My son and I enjoyed using Mouth Monsters and will definitely continue to use is in addition to our daily oral routine (my husband included!)
Mouth Monsters is dentist approved and since it's all-natural, it's safe for kids to swallow! Mouth Monster provides you and your child a fun and easy way to make oral hygiene fun and easy!
*Please note thatis not meant to replace your child's daily oral care or dental visits.
