Why are you here? Look around and see!

I have spent a lot of time throughout my life thinking about why I am here on this Earth.  In this journey I switched colleges 3 times, changed majors more times than that, went back to school after graduating and spent countless hours thinking, praying and pondering what God wants me to do with my life.

I brought up this struggle in my small group the other night and it was as if everyone said, “you too?”  The more I thought about it the more I was convinced that a lot of us struggle with the fact that there are no more audible voices from God telling people exactly what they should be doing.

I believe many of us want to step into the Things God has called us for we just have absolutely no idea what they are or where to start.

So what do we do?  What is the answer?

What if the answer has already been given to us and we just need eyes to see?

Let’s look at a few words within Ephesians 2:10.

  1. Masterpiece

“For we are God’s masterpiece”

Webster gives the definition of masterpiece as “a work done with extraordinary skill; a supreme intellectual or artistic achievement.”

So we, mankind, are God’s supreme achievement.  If we think about all of the things God has Created, we are greater than all of them.  Think about the universe for a second.  It is so expansive and big that we haven’t found the edge of it yet.  For all we know there may not even be an edge or an end to this universe we find ourselves in.  Within this universe we are but specks of sand, and yet WE are God’s masterpiece, not the universe!

  1. So

“created anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things….”

We were created So.

God did not just create a masterpiece, He created a masterpiece so it can do things.

  1. Planned for us long ago

“He Planned for us long ago.”

These things we are supposed to do were planned a very long time ago.

If God created a masterpiece so it could do things He has had planned for a very long time, would He allow those plans to be thwarted?

Doesn’t it follow that His plan will come to fruition whether or not we are aware of it or accept it?

Doesn’t it seem a bit arrogant to believe we are capable of derailing a plan that the God of the universe has set up long ago?

Now What?

Isaiah 14:27 says, “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken – who can change his plans?  When his hand is raised, who can stop him?”

How small is a view of God that says, “Reveal your will for my life that I may fulfill it?”

Wouldn’t it make more sense to say “If I am God’s greatest achievement and He has specific things he created for me to do, he is going to do them, with or without my knowledge.”

God wants you to do the works he prepared for you MORE than you want to do them.

Perhaps all we need to do is look around and ask that we be given eyes to see and ears to hear rather than a whole new life or career or role.

I would say there is a good chance whatever it is God has for you to do, you are either already doing it, or you are already in the position you need to be in to begin doing it.

God’s plans WILL come to fruition, and you are the masterpiece He created to get those plans accomplished.
