Creating Magical Memories: A Week of Enchantment with Aurora from Sleeping Beauty

As moms, we all strive to create unforgettable moments for our children, moments that sparkle with joy, learning, and a touch of Disney magic. So, why not embark on a magical quest of our own – one filled with crafts, learning activities, and delightful snacks that revolve around the beloved characters we all grew up cherishing?

Throughout this series, we’ll explore one Disney character each week, tying it to a specific letter of the alphabet. My goal is to create a preschool-at-home program that ignites curiosity, enhances fine motor skills, and also sparks a love for learning in our little ones. Disney Preschool at Home – A Week (Aurora)

First, let’s begin with Princess Aurora, the lovely Sleeping Beauty, as we dive into the letter “A.” From crafting our very own crowns to going on “A” nature walks, there’s an array of enchanting activities that will fill your days with joy and laughter.

So, come along as we sprinkle fairy dust and bring the charm of Aurora’s world into our homes. Let’s create memories that will light up our children’s hearts and inspire them to dream big, just like their favorite Disney princess.

“Once Upon a Dream” Sleeping Beauty Sensory Bin Idea

My daughters LOVE sensory play. I purchased this sensory table on Prime Day and plan to do themed sensory bins for each Disney Preschool at Home week we do. Here’s the “Once Upon a Dream” Sensory Bin idea:

Materials Needed:

1. Plastic or wooden bin (large enough for your child to play comfortably)
2. Pink and blue rice (colored using food coloring & White Vinegar)
3. Plastic princess figurines (Aurora, Prince Phillip, Flora, Fauna, Merriweather and/or other characters from the movie)
4. Miniature spinning wheel toy or spindle (optional)
5. Glitter foam stars or gold sequins
6. Small plastic gems or beads (representing Aurora’s jewelry)
7. Scoops, spoons, and small containers for scooping and pouring

Instructions:

1. First, prepare the colored rice: In separate Ziplock bags, add uncooked rice, a tablespoon of White Vinegar and a few drops of food coloring. Close the bags and shake until the rice is evenly colored. Pour the rice onto a baking sheet. Allow it to dry before using.
2. Fill the sensory table or bin: Next, pour the colored rice into the plastic bin, layering the pink and blue to create a dreamy landscape.
3. Add the magic: Sprinkle glitter foam stars or sequins throughout the rice to represent the enchanting magic in Sleeping Beauty.
4. Bring the characters: Place the princess figurines and other characters from the movie into the sensory bin. Let your child reenact scenes from the story or create their own adventures for Aurora.
5. Finally, add small plastic gems or beads to the sensory bin, representing the sparkling jewelry Aurora wears in the movie.

Sensory Play Ideas:

• Encourage your child to scoop and pour the colored rice using the scoops and containers, enhancing their fine motor skills.
• You can also narrate the story of Sleeping Beauty as your child plays with the sensory bin, fostering imaginative play and creativity.
• Create a treasure hunt by hiding small objects (like the gems) or even wood or plastic “A’s” in the rice for your child to find.

The “Once Upon a Dream” Sensory Bin will transport your little one into the enchanting world of Sleeping Beauty, providing hours of sensory play and magical adventures.

Week 1: Letter “A” – Aurora from Sleeping Beauty Activities for Preschool

Introduction to Letter “A” (Day 1)

• Craft Activity: Create an “A” is for Aurora crown using foam sheets, stick on gems and pearls.
• Educational Activity: Practice tracing the letter “A” using finger paint or a dry-erase board.
• Snack Idea: Enjoy apple slices dipped in almond butter to reinforce the “A” theme.

Aurora and Sleeping Beauty (Day 2)

• Movie Time: Watch Sleeping Beauty together and discuss the main character, Aurora.
• Craft Activity: Make a paper plate spinning wheel (spindle) craft using paper plates and a brad fastener.
• Educational Activity: Introduce the color “pink” and “blue” (Aurora’s dress colors) and sort pink/blue objects together.
• Snack Idea: Serve pink strawberry yogurt with granola and some blue sprinkles.

Animals and “A” Names (Day 3)

• Craft Activity: Create handprint art animals (like squirrels or rabbits) using finger paints.
• Educational Activity: Learn the sounds of animals that live in the forrest (Owls, Squirrels, Rabbits) and watch videos of them.
• Snack Idea: Have animal crackers as a fun treat.

“A” Nature Walk (Day 4)

• Outdoor Activity: Take a nature walk in the park or backyard, and find things that start with the letter “A” (e.g., acorns, ants).
• Craft Activity: Make a nature collage using the items found during the walk.
• Snack Idea: Enjoy an assortment of fresh “fruits of the forrest” like berries and/or apples.

“A” Scavenger Hunt (Day 5)

• Indoor Activity: Set up a letter “A” scavenger hunt, hiding objects that start with “A” around the house.
• Craft Activity: Decorate a special box to collect the “A” items during the hunt.
• Snack Idea: Have a picnic with avocado sandwiches and apple slices.

Throughout the week, try to also incorporate reading time with books featuring the letter “A” or Disney princess stories. Use flashcards or magnetic letters to reinforce letter recognition and also sounds. In addition, encourage your child to practice tracing the letter “A” on a wipe-clean workbook.
