Super Mario Birthday Party Ideas DIY Decorations

If you’re looking to throw a Super Mario-themed birthday party, creating your own DIY party decorations is a great way to add a personal touch to the celebration. Here are some ideas for creating your own Super Mario-themed party decorations.

Create a Super Mario Scene

One way to bring the world of Super Mario to life is to create a Super Mario scene using PVC pipes and cardboard cutouts. You can create a backdrop of pipes and boxes, and then add cutouts of characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. You can also add question mark blocks and mushrooms to complete the scene.

I found PVC pipes at our local hardware store and spray painted them green. Using blue and green disposable plastic tablecloths, I created this fun scene as a backdrop for my daughter’s party. I also added stars, coins (gold paper plates) and clouds to complete the look.

Create Boxes

Another way to add to the Super Mario theme is to create your own boxes to use as decorations. Boxes are pretty cheap and can even be free if you’re lucky! You can use cardboard boxes and paint them to look like question mark blocks or brick blocks. I made an entire brick block entrance for our guests to walk through. In addition, I made some smaller boxes and thumbtacked them to the wall above our food table.

Happy Birthday Banner

No birthday party is complete without a Happy Birthday banner. To make a Super Mario-themed banner, you can create your own letters using cardboard or foam board and paint them in the colors of Super Mario characters. You can also add stars and mushrooms to the banner to make it more festive.

Overall, creating your own DIY Super Mario-themed party decorations is a fun and creative way to add a personal touch to your celebration. With a little bit of creativity and some basic crafting supplies, you can create a memorable party that your guests will love.

Mario Birthday Party Activities & DIY Party Games

Looking for some fun and easy DIY party games to keep your guests entertained at your Super Mario birthday party? Look no further! Here are some great ideas that will have everyone feeling like they’re part of the game.

Mario Kart Games

One of the most popular games in the Mario franchise is Mario Kart, so why not bring that excitement to your party? Here are a few ideas:

  • Mario Kart Balloon Pop: Create a course using balloons and have guests race through it on foot. Each balloon has a number inside that corresponds to a prize. Whoever pops the balloon with the highest number wins the biggest prize.
  • Mario Kart Relay Race: Divide guests into teams and have them race through an obstacle course. Each team member must complete a task before passing the baton to the next person. The first team to finish wins.
  • Mario Kart Tournament: Set up a Mario Kart tournament on the Nintendo Switch. Guests can compete against each other in races to see who comes out on top.

Play Super Mario

One of the easiest ways to incorporate Super Mario into your party is by playing the game! Set up a Nintendo and let guests play. Whether it’s Mario Kart, Super Mario Party or classic Super Nintendo. This activity is sure to entertain your guests.

Pin the Mustache on Mario

This classic party game gets a Mario twist! Create a large poster of Mario without his mustache and have guests take turns trying to pin it on the right spot while blindfolded. Whoever gets closest wins a prize.

Bob-omb Toss

Set up a target area using hula hoops or buckets, and have kids take turns tossing small bean bags or stuffed Bob-omb toys into the targets for points.

Goomba Stomp

Inflate several brown balloons to represent Goombas and scatter them around the playing area. Kids have to stomp on as many balloons as possible within a time limit.

Koopa Shell Relay

Divide the kids into teams and set up a relay race where each child has to carry and pass a large Koopa shell (or substitute with a stuffed toy) to the next team member. Play Super Mario music to set the tone!

Super Mario Obstacle Course

Set up an obstacle course with various challenges inspired by Super Mario games, such as jumping over “lava” (red tape), crawling through tunnels, and navigating “Piranha Plant” hoops.

Power-Up Scavenger Hunt

Hide different colored “power-up” items (cards, stickers, or small toys) throughout the party area and let the kids search for them. Each color could represent a different power-up from the game.

Yoshi Egg Spoon Race

Organize a classic egg-and-spoon race, but instead of using real eggs, use plastic eggs painted like Yoshi eggs.

Bowser’s Ring Toss

Set up 2 liter soda bottles filled with water and have the kids toss rings to try and land them over the top, representing capturing Bowser. Print and cutout a picture of Bowser to glue to the bottle.

Mystery Box Piñata DIY

I painted a square box yellow and filled it with candy and treats. The kids hit the bottom with their heads (just like in the game) until the piñata prizes came out.

Hopefully these DIY party game ideas have inspired you to create a fun and memorable Super Mario birthday party for your guests. Don’t forget to also consider renting a game truck for even more gaming fun!
