It’s a Small World Birthday Party Ideas + FREE Printables

A first Birthday is always such a huge milestone and warrants a big celebration. My daughter loves the ride It’s a Small World at Walt Disney World so it only seems fitting for her first Birthday Party theme. Check out my Alice in ONEderland first birthday and Toy Story First Birthday party ideas and printables too!

Here’s how we pulled off an It’s a Small World First Birthday Party and some free printables to use too!

It’s a Small World Birthday Party Decor Ideas

Like for most of our birthday parties, I used a backdrop frame from Amazon along with white and gold sequin curtains. We made the balloon arch the night before using purple, pink, gold and confetti balloons. This balloon machine and this garland strip is a LIFESAVER if you’re doing your own balloon arch!

I added foam flowers from Hobby Lobby and pinned on printable signs that say “Happy Birthday” in different languages. My inspiration was the ending of the ride, where they display “Goodbye” in different languages.

I made this large It’s a Small World birthday prop from a recycled refrigerator box. I traced out the shape that I wanted and cut out the silhouette. Next, I drew in the shapes to figure out how it should look. Finally, I painted the designs and added iridescent glitter anywhere there is white. This prop was a huge hit at our party.

It’s a Small World Birthday Party Food Ideas

For food, I chose foods from around the world. Our menu included:

  • Soft Pretzels from Germany
  • Chinese Eggrolls
  • Mexican Taquitos
  • Poky Japanese Candy
  • Italian Baked Ziti

I printed off flags to represent the country for each dish. Everyone loved them!

In addition to cupcakes from our local bakery, I make a cake with white frosting and gold sprinkles and printed an It’s a Small World clock face circle to insert on the top. I also put our It’s a Small World Little Golden Book on display because it seemed like such a perfect fit! I used the illustrations in this book as inspiration when creating the backdrop and printable designs.

Of course, a first birthday party isn’t complete without a fun cake smash photo op. Our little “princess” insisted on a spoon before digging in. This tradition is always so much fun to watch and was even cuter in front of the It’s a Small World backdrop.

Here are the printables I created for her party! If you’re planning an It’s a Small World birthday party, feel free to download the free printables for private use.
