Social life vs social media…

So todays blog is based on something that I have recently experienced!!!! I was at the pub with the hubby a few weeks ago and was sitting drinking, chatting and so relieved to have an afternoon just the two of us….. looking round there was a few people sitting randomly dotted round with a couple of friends at their table and they were all sitting there not saying a thing to each other….. literally all staring at their phones!! what the hell of this about? Now we all know 99% of people have smart phones and can run business of their phones…. other apps can let you check bank balances and other are just there for pleasure!!!1 Now the thing that I noticed was that the only time there people actually spoke to each other was to say look at this…. then flashed the Phone to a friend t show them something which was followed by ‘ haha share that on my wall’…..what the fuck man? when did virtual socialisation out rule real interactive friendship?! Now I have to admit there have been times I have been sat for a coffee with my bestie and we have drank a cuppa coffee and had a scroll through the phone but only for 5 mins…. also this is mostly when the baby is having a midday nap and my friend and I can share a silence that’s not awkward!!!! (plus we just want to drink the frigging coffee in peace for 5 minutes). This in mind we can literally spend a day together and never run of things to say and actually talk to each other.

This rule applies to the world of teen dating and really gets my goat… teenagers nowdays get is easy but hard at the same time… while back when I was in my dodgy teenage years I, like many others my age, had the pleasure of having to get my mate to ask a boy if he liked my then send notes (or texts towards later teenhood) and actually have to face my crush on a day to day basis and endure the embarrassment of seeing them everyday, even if it turned out they didn’t fancy you… Now teens today literally can create a whole different person but slapping on make up or using filters to rub blemishes and spots out before sending pics to a guy or gal online… even then they have access not to just the boy/girl who lives on the other road but all around the world….. some girls I have seen pics of look bloody older then me with their primark push up bra ceramic straightened hair and half a ton of MAC make up slapped on… and I was there happy with my clearasel spot free face wash and black head control and a bit of pink eye shadow my mum gave me because she never would use that colour!!!

But that’s how they have it easy…. so how do they have it hard? ACTUAL INTERACTION. I have actually witnessed this…. a person I know lets call them boy A was chatting to a girl on his phone online and got on really well with this girl, sent pics, voice note things, and everything….. when he met, lets call her girl B they could barely look at each other… so what did they do…..TEXT!!!! They actually sat there opposite sides of the room texting each other….. and the sad thing is after this uncomfortable virtual-interaction had taken place and they had declared how much they loved each other and Blah Blah blah, turned out the couldn’t stand each other…. she though he was too needy and he could see her fake face line where her make up was so thick (his words) she would have to use an angle grinder to get it all off!!!! So although they could have chatted to the end of eternity in inter web bliss and been happy… they had actually fallen for their virtual persona on their Social Media pages!!!! I actually find that scary…. give me real rejection or love anytime!!!!

So where does that lead us in the future… are we really doomed to sit in the pub chatting to our mates in a silent night of social media interaction? nope…. me and the girly mates are off to watch a movies and have a dance in a few weeks, then im out with the buddies and hubby for some interactive zombie fun…. and over the 6 week holidays I will be having a technology detox. I will attempt to do the 6 weeks without going on Facebook ( I only mention facebook as im getting old and only have facebook haha). Yep I will be only uploading my blogs a couple of times a week and that’s it!!!!! technology seems to be taking over our lifes and we are becoming more and more dependant on it to ‘enhance’ our lives….

And while you might sit there and say ‘nope that me me I barely even go on social media’ ask yourself this…. where did you find this blog?????? 99.9% facebook

Remember look up at the sky sometimes and feel the sunshine on your face…. then keep your head held high…..
