How to include your kids in your wedding 2024 guide

When it comes to getting married, there’s no right or wrong way to do things these days. Many couples are together for years before they decide to tie the knot, often living together and having kids first. Or you may be remarrying and already have kids. If you are getting married with kids already in the mix, it’s important to look for ways to include kids in your wedding.

Having your kids involved in your Wedding can be amazing, here are some great ideas of how to get your kids involved in your wedding both in the run-up to the event and on the day itself.

Give them a role in the bridal party

It’s very common to have young children as bridesmaids, flower girls, and ushers at a wedding or maybe even consider some alternative roles. Who doesn’t love seeing them in their beautiful outfits on the day? There won’t be a dry eye in the house.

You can even have your children walk you down the aisle.

Let them choose their outfits

Wedding planning can feel a little overwhelming for kids, especially as they don’t really have much say in what’s going on. Take them shopping and let them pick their outfits and wedding accessories for themselves. Just be sure that you don’t give them too much freedom or you may be walking down the aisle with The Avengers.

Take them to view wedding venues

If you’re looking for the perfect venue to get married in, take your kids with you and make a day of it. As well as letting them look around and give their opinion, find something you can do close by or go out for a nice lunch somewhere. If you’re looking at somewhere that is far from your house, stay over for the night and make a mini-break of it.

Involving children in wedding venue selection can make them feel valued and excited about the upcoming celebration. You can involve them right from the offset by window shopping for wedding venues online at Square Meal.

And if there’s any catering to be sampled, then get their opinions too. Even if they’re quite picky when it comes to their taste, you’re sure to get a lot of feedback over the wedding cake. In fact, they’ll probably demand to sample quite a few.

Let them give a speech

It’s not just the best man who should be giving a speech at the wedding. If your kids aren’t shy, then why not let them say a few words about their parents getting married?

Choose the playlist

If your kids are a little older, let them choose a few songs for the playlist at your reception. They’ll probably have a better idea of what’s currently popular than you do and they’re sure to be a hit with the younger guests at your wedding.

Include them in your vows

If you’re writing your own vows, this is the perfect opportunity to Include them. Talking about your love for each other and your children is really special and a beautiful thing to do.

Final thoughts

It’s easy for kids to feel a little left out during wedding planning and on the big day which is why it’s important to give some extra thought into how to include your kids in your wedding. While a wedding is for you and your partner to commit to each other, having your children there can be very special for everyone involved. Try and include them as much as they are comfortable with and you’ll ensure everyone has a great day.
