How to keep your bedroom tidy: top tips for a tidier bedroom

Is your Bedroom forever looking like mess or drowning in clutter? If you’re wondering how to keep your bedroom tidy, and living in mess is bothering you then read on! Keeping your bedroom clean and tidy is by no means fun or interesting, but it doesn’t have to be a chore or hard either. There are several ways in which you can help yourself to keep your bedroom looking like a featured room from an interior design magazine. Read on as I share some useful hacks to help you keep your bedroom tidy.

Why are bedrooms harder to keep tidy than other rooms?

Even the tidiest people will struggle to keep their bedrooms in order compared to the rest of the house, and this is generally due to it being out of sight, out of mind. A bedroom is not somewhere that you often have visitors or guests, and due to this fact subconsciously you can become a little less strict with yourself about maintaining a preferred level of tidiness. However, don’t worry there are several things you could think about implementing, installing, or focusing on to help keep your bedroom tidier.

Invest in storage systems and furniture

Something that will cause any room to become untidy is not having the right storage systems in place, as you will end up leaving things in random piles around the room, or stacked up on any free surfaces you might have, such as a desk, nightstands, or dressing top tables.

Luckily, an easy solution to stopping this is investing in some storage systems and furniture. For example, you could get fitted wardrobes installed, beds with storage compartments, compact desks, bedside tables, hanging clothes organisers, or even storage boxes. Just make sure that if you do invest in storage systems, you don’t use them to simply “hide stuff” as this will only cause you more grief in the future. Be sure that each storage area you get has a purpose and that you are strict with yourself concerning what you are storing there.

Create a room tidying schedule

Like anything in life, if you are trying to do something that is either hard for you to do, not interesting or just unfun then it can be a complete drag. This feeling is then only made worse if the task in question feels like a big job and can often feel overwhelming, leading to excuses and delaying the cleaning.

I recommend picking a day or two during the week to just give your bedroom a quick once over and tidy, this wayt will take you a fraction of the time and seem a lot less overwhelming when you face the task.

Identify and improve your habits

Habits come in good and bad forms, and what you need to do is figure out what bad habits you have and small improvements that you can make to change them from bad to good habits. For example, a bad habit that many people have is not making their bed. The bed is generally one of the main focus points in a bedroom and therefore contributes to a large portion of the perceived tidiness, so even if you have a tidy room in general but a messy bed, the room can still feel untidy.

This is thankfully one of the quickest fixes you can do, it will take a maximum of 60 seconds to fix, even if you have hundreds of pillows to put back on your bed. Just try to introduce making your bed as soon as you get out of it. Making it a habit will make it easier to complete and help you hate the chore a little less.

Get a laundry basket

Laundry is possibly one of, if not the biggest culprit of having an untidy bedroom. Not only does laundry cause a mess when you have dirty washing to clean but once it is clean and off the washing line it can often cause a mess again if not put away immediately.

Getting laundry baskets will help with both clean and dirty washing as they will hide away any dirty clothes that need washing and if you haven’t got time to properly put away what has been cleaned, you could invest in a second basket to temporarily store your clean clothes that are waiting to be put away.

Change to a minimalist bedroom

Some people love to have a busy bedroom filled with items and objects that make them happy. However, if this specific aesthetic does not appeal to you, you might consider re-doing your room into a more minimalistic style.

Think about the things that you want or need in your bedroom and then look into removing or relocating anything else that is left which could just be taking up space and making your bedroom seem untidy. Minimalistic rooms also have the benefit of being much easier to clean and keep on top of.

So, if you are looking for ways to help keep your bedroom tidier, why not try out one of these tips and see if it makes a difference?
