Top tips for a day at the beach with the kids + #win

It feels great to wake up to a sunny day, especially if you live in the UK. In this country, nobody is located more than 70 miles from the sea. So, for everyone, hitting the beach with the kids is a viable option. It really is the perfect way for families to while away a sunny day, especially with the long school holidays now here!

The only problem is that, in all likelihood, practically everyone is thinking the same. So, you will want to make an early start to avoid the traffic and ensure you can grab a space before the Beach gets too crowded. By far the best way to do this is to gather everything together into a plastic storage container or large bag. That way all you have to do is to grab it, and a few other items, and put them in the car to get going. Here is a quick checklist of what you will need to put aside.

Swimwear

If you have not already done so, get everyone to try on their swimwear. You want to be sure it all fits and is in good condition. If you need new swimwear, take a look at some of the online retailers like www.simplybe.co.uk. Firms like this sell an especially good selection, which makes it easier to find what you want.

Sun protection

Everyone needs a hat. Look for one with a wide brim and some way to keep it in place if it gets windy.

Each member of the family needs a pair of sunglasses that offers a proper level of protection from the sun. Fortunately, you do not have to spend a fortune to buy the right type. All you need to do is to follow the guidance given here.

For the younger members of the family, some sort of shade tent is a good idea. It may also be worth kitting them out in Sun Protection clothes. However, do not forget to regularly apply sun-cream to the areas that are not fully covered. Be sure to apply something to their lips. You can find out about the skin care and sun protection products we have found to be good, by clicking here.

Food and water

This is super important – pack some water and things to eat (I like to fill up an Esky ice box full of things that will keep us going for the day). Be sure to put these in the car with you. That way, if you hit a traffic jam you can get at everything quickly and stop anyone from getting hungry or thirsty. Here are some beach snack ideas to get you started.

Toys and other items

Remember to pack items like buckets and spades so that you don’t have to waste money buying yet another set when you get to the beach! Plus, something to keep everyone occupied while in the car. It is also worth popping a power pack in too, so you can keep everyone´s electronic devices going if need be – although, going to the beach presents you with the perfect chance to go technology free for a few hours. If you do want to take your phones and tablets to the beach it is wise to buy some waterproof and sand proof pouches for them.

Music

There is nothing like your favourite tunes to make a day at the beach extra vibey and memorable. These days, portable speakers make this super easy to achieve. For this, we recommend the Onforu ultra-compact wireless bicycle speaker (£20.99). This mini Bluetooth speaker can easily be slipped into your backpack or beach bag and comes with a clip making it easy to hang up wherever you are – whether that be on a wall close by, a deckhair, sunshade or windshield when down at the beach.

Towels and mats

Don´t forget to pack enough beach towels and mats. The chances are everyone will be in and out of the water constantly. So, pack the type that dries out quickly.

Beach shoes

You can never be sure what is lurking just below the sand, so it makes sense for everyone to wear shoes while on the beach. Flip flops or water shoes are an especially good option.

First aid kit for the beach

When everyone is running around playing, cuts and grazes are going to happen. So, it is wise to put together a simple first aid kit to make sure that you can treat them without having to lose your spot on the beach.

And once you’ve got all of that locked down, you’re all set! All we need is this glorious weather we’ve been having to continue (though chances are it will disappear once the school holidays start ***rolls eyes***).
