Golden rules for choosing prints for your child’s bedroom + #win

I am a big fan of decorating a child’s bedroom with prints. They are an instant way of turning a bare wall into something magical, and a pretty inexpensive way of decorating your child’s room so that it feels really special to them. Now on our second round of Print choosing for our daughter’s bedroom, today I wanted to share with you our golden rules for choosing prints for your child’s bedroom.

Have a space in mind

First and foremost when Choosing Prints for your child’s bedroom, have an idea of where the prints will be going within their room. Zone in which dedicated space in the room you plan to feature them, and know the dimensions. The worst thing is ordering a bunch of prints that are either too small or too big for the space.

I will literally get the dimensions of the prints/frames and measure them up against the wall we plan to hang them on to ensure that the end result will look as intended. This only takes a few extra minutes but is 100% worth the effort.

Look for prints on a site which has a great kids section

In my experience, some poster and print sites are better catered to children. When it comes to choosing prints for your child’s bedroom, we love using Posterlounge which has a fantastic range of gallery quality wall art for kids. Whether you are looking to decorate a nursery or have an older child in mind, there is plenty of choice for all age levels.

We chose the prints within this post from Posterlounge and would highly recommend them, especially as they come in a variety of materials including canvas prints, posters, acrylic prints, wood prints and so on. They also happen to ship right across Europe too.

Know their taste

Young children have very different taste to adults when it comes to adults. Younger children like bright and colourful artwork so be sure to choose something fun and positive that they will love to look at last thing at night before they go to sleep and wake up to in the morning. Anything with even the faintest notion of creepiness (my daughter has a thing about penetrating eyes!) is out of the question.

Let them pick

When choosing prints for your child’s bedroom – even if fancy yourself as an interior designer – resist the urge to take over and instead be sure to let your child choose. Letting them take ownership over the choosing process is the best way to ensure that the prints you eventually select will be a success. Children know what they like, and like what they know so the prints should be something that reflects their interests and personality. My daughter is mad on anything magical, unicorn or animal and bird-related – which is very much reflected in her print picks!

Fitting in

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with helping your child think about what would go with the room’s colour scheme and how the prints they are choosing will work together. Encourage them to imagine how the artwork will look in the room, and also look together. Although children aren’t too bothered about colour clashes, try to help them choose prints that will go with the overall colour scheme of their room.

We hope you found these tips for choosing prints for your child’s bedroom useful. What do you think of the prints my daughter chose for her room?
