Sometimes as a mum, the notion of “looking good” can feel like a far-flung hope. With no time, no energy and sometimes no idea where to start you might be wondering whether looking more “put together” is even achievable. But with some little tips and tricks, it IS possible. Today we have Karen J. Gerrard – Founder of SEAMS Couturiers Hand Cream to share her cost-effective and quick beauty tips for busy mums.

There’s never a minute to spare in the day for mums, we are usually juggling a hand full of jobs at once and skincare gets left to the bottom of the list, but looking after your Skin doesn’t have to take up much time here are my beauty tips for busy mums – think multi-tasking skincare with quick results:

In the shower

  • Keep your cleansers, exfoliator and a foot file, in the shower ready to use at the same time you are bathing.
  • Wash off products are best they take a couple of minutes to use and a splash of water on the face gets the blood flowing to the surface and helps brighten the complexion.
  • A facial wash is best in the morning whilst at night a deeper cleanse is better I love Liz Earl Cleanse and Polish, just before you get into the shower massage some cream into your face and then wipe off with the wet muslin cloth supplied or a flannel.

Let’s talk creams

  • As we reach the age of 30 our skin looses 1% collagen and elastin each year and fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. Taking a few extra minutes to moisturise your skin will have long term benefits and keep skin looking younger.
  • In the morning use a cream with an SPF even if it’s not sunny outside an SPF will help protect from the elements try Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream with SPF 30.
  • At night add a serum in under your night cream, try Neils Yard Organic Frankincense Intense Lift Cream and Serum they come in a mini kit if you want to try it first.

Exfoliate!

  • Exfoliate once a week to take away dead skin cells and smooth skin. Products will absorb quicker and be more effective. Pixi Glow do a gentle Exfoliating Tonic that soothes and renews skin.
  • Rub in a foot exfoliator such as palmers Foot Magic Scrub wash off then buff with Scholl Dual Action Foot File and Hard Skin remover. Follow up with School Cracked Heel Repair Cream Active Repair K+.

In the bath

  • If you do have time for a bath pour in some Weleda Lavender Bath Milk to help relax the mind and moisturise your skin whilst you soak.
  • Epsom salts are a quick and cost effective way to relieve aches and pains and can be added at the same time, be sure to keep the water temperature warm as hot water can dry the skin.

Keeping things moisturized & conditioned

  • Use a body oil with a spray dispense its quickest to apply, but if you have sensitive skin, a lotion is better, E45 Daily Lotion spray 200 ml and it absorbs quickly. You could also try Aveeno Daily Moisturising Body Lotion 300ml in a large pump bottle. Whatever you use apply onto damp skin to help lock in moisture.
  • Keeping your hair well-conditioned will save time in the long run as brushing becomes easier and you will avoid those bad hair days. I was recently recommended L’Oreal Extreme Lengths Shampoo and Conditioner enriched with Keratin it keeps long hair soft, smooth and manageable find it in Superdrug for £2.47!
  • With all the sanitising, hands are now dryer than ever, so keep a tube of hand cream next to the kitchen sink and one in the car. There’s always a time in the car when you are waiting for the kids, when leaving the house or at school pick up. SEAMS Couturiers Hand Cream absorbs instantly and isn’t greasy so you can use it whilst on the run. It has the added benefits of Shea Butter and a Biomimetic Lipid Complex that helps to lock in moisture. It’s great on the feet and elbows too!

It’s about lifestyle too

  • Sleepless nights, early mornings can leave eyes looking worse for wear to help take away puffy eyes gently pat a drop of The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream morning and night or for a real treat use Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recovery Complex II with Hyaluronic Acid to instantly add radiance and see a younger-looking skin within four weeks. They eye area is very sensitive so when using a new product test on a small area near the eye fist to check for allergic reactions.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast, the most important meal of the day, it’s no good to be running on empty! Have a slow-release food such as oatmeal. Avocados are a great source of vitamin E and eggs will help nourish and provides vitamin C for skin repair.
  • Snack during the day on brazil nuts they contain powerful antioxidants and studies have shown they can help clear the skin as they contain selenium
  • Drink water all day long to hydrate from inside as well as out. If you pinch the skin on the top of your hand and it doesn’t immediately bounce back then you could be dehydrated.
