A family holiday in Gran Canaria? Here’s 5 reasons to go

When it comes to family holidays, it can be tough to find something that pleases everyone all year round, and if you’re thinking of grabbing some Winter sun, then Gran Canaria is definitely a place you should consider. Let’s take a look at why Gran Canaria holidays are great for families:

Lovely beaches

Whether it’s the sweeping  2.8km of sand at Las Cantera – the longest beach on Gran Canaria –  or the iconic Maspalomas, Gran Canaria has so many wonderful beaches to offer with each one bringing something different to the table.  Amadores is a calm beach with hardly any waves and it isn’t very deep either making it especially great for children.

Great weather

With an average of 320 sunny days a year, it’s not hard to see why Gran Canaria has become a mecca for sun starved Brits! The south of the island, where all the resorts are, gets almost permanent sunshine and the temperatures generally don’t go lower than 18°C even in January.

Family friendly resorts

Whether you’re looking for family resorts with superb kids’ clubs, activities for teens, awesome children’s pools or trustworthy babysitting services, resorts like the Seaside Palm Beach and the Hotel Riu Palace among a plethora of others will definitely not disappoint!

Fun days out

You’re never short of things to do in Gran Canaria. From taking a dolphin or whale  watching trip out to marvel at these incredible forces of nature, to splashing around in the water parks of Aqualand or getting up close to the animals of Palmitos Park or even on them during a camel safari, Gran Canaria has so much to offer in terms of fun days out. And for those of you who have Angry Birds fans in the house, a visit to the Angry Birds Activity Park is a must! The list of things to do is endless, I could go on and on but some other things to check out include Sioux City (an unexpected recreation of the Wild Wild West), the Botanic Gardens, Holiday World Amusement Park plus so much more.

Picturesque towns

Arucas is a lovely place to visit, and is the rum capital of the island whilst Terror is the spiritual heart of Gran Canaria with cobbled pedestrian streets, lots of typical wooden balconies, and a busy weekend market it’s a great town to visit.
Fataga is a ridiculously pretty little town with palm trees, fruit trees and tiled rooves wherever you look and is one of the oldest habitations on the island. Galdar was one of the two  capitals of Gran Canaria and the archaeological park there is the best place to visit  ruins on the island.

So there you have it, five reasons why Gran Canaria makes a great all year round holiday destination. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting wanderlust just thinking about it! Have you been on a family holiday to Gran Canaria or perhaps you are planning one? Do leave a comment and share.
